Jessops versus Barnsley - any recommendations?

Hi, I've selected Jessops Sheffield but recently know a couple of women who had really bad birthing experiences there - now I'm wondering whether to transfer to Barnsley - has anyone got any experiences/reviews from either in the last year? Thanks

I gave birth at Jessops recently. Absolutely fantastic experience in the pool room. Midwives were kind, reassuring. encouraging and listening to me every step of the way. Couldn't fault it.

Equally, my experience at Jessops three years ago was also a very positive one. Despite the birth going as "wrong" as it possibly could, the staff were incredible, from the healthcare assistants to the consultant.

I have nothing but praise for them, to be honest, and also haven't heard of any negative experiences at Jessops from any of my friends - several of whom have given birth there recently.

I'm in Jessops now, they're lovely.

It depends what you're looking for - for example, Barnsley have 3 pool rooms but Jessops only has 1.

Thanks for all the replies. I am hoping for a pool and know that Jessops have one and Barnsley have 3. It's more the care from the nurses - I had 2 bad reports recently which have made me unsure.

Any more reviews would be really helpful.

Thanks Smile

My cousin recently had a v poor experience at Jessops, where it was very busy and she kept getting overlooked. We were surprised as it had such a good reputation.

I had a brilliant experience at Jessops - couldn't fault anything, excellent care all round.

Several of my friends have given birth there and the only complaint I've heard is that sometimes it gets super busy and if you're not high risk then that means a wait - but surely that's the case at any decent teaching hospital?

Thankyou so much did all of the replies - I have decided to go with Jessops and all the positive stories have really helped me feel more confident and relaxed about it - thanks xxx

Another vote for Jessops here (though its 5 mins from my house so the natural choice anyway!). DS was poorly after birth and the neonatal unit is excellent. Agree with some other posters that main wards are quite short staffed though.

Forgot to add my actual birth experience was great too despite an emergency section!
