Can dogs sense labour?

Hey all!
I'm 37+2 but measuring approx one week ahead. We have two Japense Shiba Inus and they're wonderful.
For about a week before I found out I was pregnant our male dog was really clingy to us both and we just assumed that he sensed some unrest as my hubby was due to start working away pending a move to a different area which has been called off now.
I did a test and he immediately walked off as if to say "finally ! You worked it out " and hasn't been particularly clingy since...
ANYWAY! He for the past two days has been super clingy, refusing to settle and literally just stood staring at me (see pic!) we even took him to the vet as I thought he could be in pain- all clear! Do you think he can sense something we can't ? Has anyone had a similar experience ?? Tia! X

I have no experience I'm afraid but I'm curious to hear the outcome! Smile

My mums dog(the family dog) was completely oblivious to my pregnancy!

My male dog is constantly glued to my side now and cuddling in. We are joking that he is the one incubating the baby!
Not sure if they sense labour but perhaps they can. They know when you are ill or upset and can be trained to sense changes in people who have epilepsy, why not labour?!

It's so funny how they can tell things, I'm not sure it's labour he's sensing as nothing happening however maybe something soon.
Update from today (please excuse the bum shot) but he has NEVER done this, almost like he's looking over the Moses basket (it's positioned just over the other side). Such a funny boy! X

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I do believe they know and can yell by the smell of hormones.

My dogs' behaviour was so different it was noticeable for the first few days after conception, then the evening before my waters broke was the only time he sat on me theoughout the entire 9 months and wouldn't get off me....we have some beautiful photos of him vs the bump Smile

Hoping everything goes smoothly for you.

I remember my last pregnancy my friends dog would not let any one near me and if anyone tries to sit next to me or touch me she would bark at them Smile dogs are very clever

I'm gonna say yes - whilst in labour (unknown to me) my collie followed me everywhere, even to the point of having to sit next to me in the car rather than getting in the boot...
