I'm 39+1 and my waters broke in the early hours of this morning (around 01.50am). I expected contractions to start soon after, but... nothing! Stayed up all night cleaning and tidying in a panic that the house was a mess. I thought that keeping active might help things along, but I was wrong. Spoke to labour ward in the early hours and went in to have a speculum examination at about 9am. MW confirmed they had gone (I would have been very surprised if they'd have said otherwise.. who knew that so much fluid could just fall out a person!). I was booked to be induced on Wednesday anyway (high BP), so they just brought it forward a day to tomorrow morning. I read that most labours start within 24 hours of waters breaking, but I've been waiting around all day for something to happen and so far (over 17 hours later), not a single sign. Is there anything I can do to help things along? I'm so worried about the length of time it might take for me to be induced. Do waters breaking prior to induction make a difference? x

Just stay upright, don't wear yourself out but keep active. Sit on birthing ball or upright as possible on chair, walk around. Good luck.

My waters broke at 40+5 and nothing happened. I had to be induced. It all worked out though - don't worry and chill out a little - you'll need your energy reserves.

Go to bed and get some rest!! You'll need all your strength for labour.

Honestly, lovely rest and if possible, sleep.

Best of luck for tomorrow! Keep us posted.
