You could ask for a suppository to help clear your back passage while you are in early labour, but passing a stool at that time is perfectly normal - your body is helping you make space!

Hello! Get yourself some psyllium husks and add them to your breakfast cereal in your last few weeks. Do not exceed the stated dose!
You can get them from my protein.com and a little bag will last you the dose is 2.5mg). I have this everyday and trust me it does the trick!

I wouldn't bother. I know you think it's embarrassing but they really don't care. If it's any consolation I peed all over the midwife delivering my baby 9 weeks ago. And it wasn't just a bit, it was a bucket full. Don't think I've done a bigger wee in my life!

Eat a hot curry and hope it clears you out? If you are badly constipated pop to pharmacist or GP and get something for it now.

Once upon a time it was routine to give enemas to all women in early labour.

No idea what reaction you'd get if you asked for one these days.

(It was phased out, at about the same time as compulsory hair removal).

Don't eat curry the night before labour, you are likely to be more embarrassed (extra wind, pressure from baby might make everything come out) or at least that was my experience. This time I'm taking lactulose twice a day, starting to eat more high fibre cereal and plan to use a glycerine suppository when contractions start. I've not asked the mw about using the suppository but used one the other day (I'm only 35 weeks) and it worked out fine and I felt 'clear' within about 30 mins so hopefully should be ok during labour and should reduce any embarrassing occurrences (particularly if I have a water birth again!)

Is it embarrassing in a water birth though? Don't they quietly fish it out? Blush

I pooed but didn't even notice at the time. I had to ask my mum afterwards. It would be nice if you weren't constipated though op! You could try prune juice and/or dried apricots, or dried prunes

beemybaby that sounds like a good idea actually.

i dont think i cant do much on the onset of labour as it happens to fast but i could do the lactlose.

Eurgh curry shit and farts during labour - good idea!!

I think I pooed but the mw gets rid of it quickly, it's normal but obviously not pleasant.

As soon as my waters went and I knew I was in labour I went for a poo before leaving for hospital. Made no difference, my body still managed to squeeze a bit out as the baby was crowning. It was only a couple of hours later too, not like my body had a chance to make loads more poo! It will probably happen no matter how well 'prepared' you are in advance.

I pooed during labour, eighth in the middle of the birthing pool Blush. It took the midwife about half an hour before they fished it out. I was humiliated to see bits floating around me

I wouldn't worry about it. It's totally normal. Honestly.

Colonic irrigation? Grin Might bring on labour though so debatable if they would do it in late pregnancy.

I happened to me and lots of other people, it's not pleasant but it is normal! I'm not sure there is anything you can do to avoid it tbh, I also had a fast labour and there was no way I could have done anything to erm, encourage, a movement because it wouldn't have had time to work. Console yourself with the fact that the midwives don't care and neither will your husband, especially if he's seen it all before! We joke about it now, it's fine really.

I pooed with nerves right before my c section and as I was all wired up my midwife had to clean me up. I'm a nurse myself but I was still embarrassed. But tbh they see a lot worse!
