Kingston Hospital vs St George's, South West London - esp post delivery experience

Can anyone provide any details of their experiences at either of these hospitals, especially their aftercare?

I had DD at Kingston in 2013 and there were numerous issues with her birth and aftercare. I'm now due DC2 and I'm seriously considering moving to St George's, even though it could be an hour's drive in rush hour.

I've spoken to my midwife about the issues from last time and she's referred me to the Supervisor Midwife, but I'm yet to meet with her.

Problem is, the failings with DD weren't just one person's bad decision making; it was a failure to follow their own policies and I'm worried the same will happen with DC2.

I've had GBS in both pregnancies so the aftercare is very important to me (baby will have to be monitored for 24 hours post birth).

Thanks.

I rate Kingston. There were issues when my son was born there in 2013, but I've heard bad stories about Chelsea, St Georges, Epsom etc... I'm not saying it's down to luck but that Kingston IS one of the best performing maternity units in London (if not UK). Personally I'd rather be close to the hospital if need be. DC2 expected later this month and will be going back to Kingston

I also had a great experience at Kingston.

That said, I was discharged almost immediately (with 4hrs of birth, contrary to their 6hr policy - if that bothers you). And my aftercare was then all at St George's (because of my location, that's where the community midwives were based) which was terrible, confusing, and culminated in my 3do DS being inadvertently exposed to TB during a hearing test(!!).

So I'd take Kingston over St G's any day.

I've never used either. Went to Chelsea in the end but was supposed to be George's. I changed from George's following advice from a very very good source. I can't say more than that. Kingston is supposed to be overall well rated but was outside my catchment.

polly, what was your concern re St G? I am only asking as I am equidistant from St G & Kingston and need to make a decision. I have heard good things about C&W tho but it could take twice as long to get there than the other 2.....

I had terrible post natal care at Tommies a few years ago but sadly it seems unavoidable as the NHS care is such a lottery and totally depends on which staff you get!!!!
