Buying big knickers for after the birth - what size?

Daft sounding question but I have no idea. Going for big up to the navel style pants as it'll likely be a c-section; currently squashing my arse in to pre preggo M&S size 14 shorts that are low cut. Would you size up to a 18 for room?

I would take same size your in tbh just a higher cut and band. You just want the band not in cut, not falling down

I'd go for the 18 personally! Comfort all the way and tuck everything in. Sadly, 10 months down the line I'm still occasionally wearing the huge knickers as they are SO comfy!

I'd agree with an 18. I went two sizes up and it was perfect.

Go up two sizes. I was a ten pre preg but usually wore a 12 to avoid vpl. I bought giant pants in 14 and 16 and found the latter most comfy post surgery. They could also contain a double layer of maternity pads!

I'm due in 6 weeks, current squashing in of arse to pre-preggo pants does not necessarily indicate a good fit more that I've given up! (altho I did get a bit excited the other day as my pants kept falling down, but I think that can be attributed to wonky washing and drying rather than keeping a svelte like arse....)

I went one size but went for a model that has the elastic just below the navel and was in a soft synthetic material. So pre-pregnancy I was 8 and bought big pants in 10 and 12. The 12s were uncomfortable because they creased, 10s worked perfectly.

Before having DC i wore size 6/8, I bought size 12 and that was about right.

and I still wear mine when it's cold and I want additional stomach coverage

DH should have read this thread last year - DS was early so my bag wasn't packed which led to DH being asked to bring some undies and clothes to hospital. I got thongs and tiny lace pants!

I'm a size 14, I took size 18, up to my waist knickers. Very comfortable!! (I bought them from peacocks)

I got 16 and 18 in the end to cover all eventualities. If nothing else, they'll make good dusters

I used DH's XL pants.

They were very soft, stretchy and comfortable.

I bought cotton. They were very cheap, something like £4 for a pack of five. I bought 4 packs of maternity pads, I like to be prepared(!). I bled a lot but some women don't

Size 16/18, you do puff up a bit after a section, so the comfier the better. Normal cotton ones in a darkish colour and I have got 3 packs of maternity towels and then some heavy flow panty liners.

Disposable ones - but like jay cloths - you really do need these for 1st coupe of days!!

My hospital have said that they give you what they laughingly called the 'victorias secret' knickers (I'm assuming they're the disposable ones...)

On the maternity pads, I've seen a lot of people say to go for these instead of heavy flow sanitary pads with regards to having a vaginal birth, due to not infecting stitches etc with the plastic backing, being more comfortable etc

With a c-section I'm assuming I could probably use either?

I'm usually a 10. Bought a size 14 in M&S and they were perfect. YY to going up two sizes.

I'm usually a 14 and went for 18, will be in them after tomorrow. My mum did however buy me two pairs in size 22 that she found in an m&s sale for 50p each . At least i have back up if my ass has got fatter than I thought. Or if my boobs get cold!

I went two sizes up and it worked well. It was quite a wrench to give up the big comfy pants to be honest I got quite used to them!

Update: I got the order delivered yesterday from M&S; the 18's are perfect for now, so I imagine will do the trick nicely for the first couple of weeks as everything slowly starts to deflate, and the 16's will work after that.

Post that, I can see them as effective belly warmers for winter

I also ordered a multipack of stretchy nursing bras which look like they'll be quite good at the beginning.
