had my ds one week ago today. The midwife said I only had a 1st degree tear, but yet she spent and hour and half stitching me up. Anyway iv not had much luck and when the midwife came to visit two days ago she said they have come apart slightly, she said to bath in lavender oil and air regularly which I have been doing. My problem is I'm finding it so hard to sit down, move around, basically anything to so with using the waist downwards. They are just so so sore and sting so much. I'm also bleeding a lot, bright red and really gushes every now and again. I don't know how I'm supposed to keep my stitches dry if I'm constantly bleeding ? also another problem is, I didn't go to the toilets once giving birth so yesterday I had some senakot. Finally managed to go this morning which was hell!! Ever since iv had a nasty burning bright red rash around my anus (sorry tmi). Which is now making it even harder to sit down. I feel like everything down there is on fire and it's really starting to frustrate me. Midwife doesn't seem to be bothered about my stitches and said bleeding is normal. Has anybody else been through the same thing and got an advice? I'm so fed up!! ??
Tia

Id try calling your GP for advice. I've not had a tear but had other problems after the birth and I found that, whilst the midwives were very supportive and caring, my GP was better able to assess what was wrong. I didn't even have to go to the surgery she was able to call me and assess over the phone and DH collected the prescriptions from the reception 1 hour later.

I'd call the GP too, all sounds really uncomfortable for you.

Try bathing with a little bit of tea tree oil and salt in the bath. When you get out only pat dry, don't rub and use a hair dryer on the lowest setting to dry off down below.

When you go to the toilet try pouring some water down as you wee.

But go to the GP too as it could be you have a bit of thrush down there which is making everything sensitive.

Oh god, please stop bathing the wound And using oils, This is outdated advice and keeps it soft and stops it healing so well. Shower and keep as dry as possible. No hairdryer either as if you have an infection this could lead it to spread. Sounds like it possibly is infected given how much pain you are in - definitely not run of the mill. Go to the doctor, don't be fobbed off and make sure they have a proper look.

Sounds pretty much like my experience but I had a second with elements of third degree tear. I got thrush and infected gaping stitches. Antibiotics and time healed it. Pp that said about showers and not baths I agree with. Go see your GP to check things are as they should be. Stitches are sore, pooing is terrifying and sitting is painful for a while for a lot of people.

The degree of tear is to do with the depth of the tear and I found midwives weren't always 100% confident at saying exactly what degree my tear was.

I had a similar experience. Small tear but took ages to stitch as my tear was at the front. It is still slightly sore 3 weeks on. However the one thing that really helped (beyond ibuprofen) was witch hazel. I made a small travel sized spray bottle with 100% distilled witch hazel, 2 drops of lavender oil and 2 drops of tea tree oil. After using the toilet I would spray either myself or the maternity pad. It gives you a really excellent cooling sensation and it lasted quite awhile. It is a natural astringent and often used in treatments for piles. It is a quick as well, took seconds to feel the benefits. You can also refrigerate the mix for extra cooling!
As others have said, do speak to the GP as well but this might help you be a bit more comfortable in the meantime.
