Can you wear glasses whilst having a c section? - I'm really short sighted and won't be able to see baby or DH's face if I don't wear them. I keep forgetting to ask at appointments.

I did!

Thanks. That's good. It was just when I read the information pack they have given me, it said about all metal items needing to be removed, which got me thinking about glasses. Then I've kept forgetting to ask.

What a bloody good question (and answer).

LikeSilver Thu 22-Jan-15 15:25:10

My sister wore hers and had no issue but when I had DD I was asked to remove mine because of the metal - so I guess it depends on your hospital?

IBelieveInPink Thu 22-Jan-15 15:29:39

I did! Can easily be taken off if necessary, but no reason not to have them with you.
I took mine off for the photos after, but had them on throughout....

OohMrDarcy Thu 22-Jan-15 15:32:28

Mine were removed so all was a little blurry until recovery when I got them bacl

WhyOWhyWouldYou Thu 22-Jan-15 15:51:03

Ah. So looking 50/50 then on whether they'll allow it. I'll have to check and if they say no plead because I am very shortsighted and really don't like the idea of not being able to make outout anything of baby or DH's face throughout it all.

cuphat Thu 22-Jan-15 15:58:51

I wore mine but mine are plastic.

Annbag Thu 22-Jan-15 15:59:07

I didn't have mine on but it was emcs so not sure if that makes it different?

capercaillie Thu 22-Jan-15 16:00:36

I wore mine (not CS but spinal/forceps in theatre)

Thurlow Thu 22-Jan-15 16:07:47

I didn't have mine on. And yes, I didn't see DD - I remember them waving her in my direction before she was taken to NICU but all I could see was a vague pink blur! So if you are asked to take them off, remember to give them to your DH and put them on when your baby is born.

WhyOWhyWouldYou Thu 22-Jan-15 16:17:32

Thurlow, that's all I'd see a pink blur.

Good idea on getting DH to keep them if they say no to wearing them. Which actually has made me think of another question - does DH keep his normal clothes on under the scrubs or just have scrubs on? If just scrubs, do scrubs have pockets?

cuphat Thu 22-Jan-15 16:19:49

DH had normal clothes on underneath his gown!

sophie150 Thu 22-Jan-15 16:20:32

They were quite relaxed for mine. I wore my glasses. Dh wore scrubs on top of clothes and was allowed to take in a camera. Anaesthetist turned unto photographer once I was numb and took loads of photos for us!

Sorehead Thu 22-Jan-15 16:20:57

My DH had normal clothes on under scrubs (would have been a bit distracting for everyone if he didn't as the scrubs were see through! grin)

He was also advised to take his phone in (on aeroplane mode) and one of the MW took photos of DS being weighed etc.

clippityclop Thu 22-Jan-15 16:21:23

I wore mine and would've played hell if they'd tried to prise them off my nose! Dh wore his own clothes under scrubs, not sure about the pocket thing.

mrsmilkymoo Thu 22-Jan-15 16:21:31

Mine were metal and were allowed.

Tranquilitybaby Thu 22-Jan-15 23:48:07

I was wondering the same but for contact lenses.

Topsyloulou Thu 22-Jan-15 23:54:27

I wore my glasses. The metal was only related to jewellery. When I asked about my glasses the midwife said of course I could wear them, no reason to take them off whatsoever.

Dp wore his t-shirt under scrubs but took his jeans off, he was glad he did as it was very warm in theatre. He was allowed to take a camera in but not a phone so make sure you have a camera in your bag as well as your phone.

friendofsadgirl Thu 22-Jan-15 23:59:48

I couldn't wear my contact lenses but did wear my metal framed specs. DH wore scrubs over clothes and had my phone and jewellery in his pockets. He kept his hairnet as a souvenirhmm

I had a planned section for my twins. I wore my glasses but I think they were plastic. DH had my phone and took loads of photos, I still have them on my phone and love looking at them 5 years later smile

missnevermind Fri 23-Jan-15 00:21:25

DH kept his hairnet too as a keepsake.

I wore my glasses throughout. EMCS here too

Bloodyhell11 Fri 23-Jan-15 00:27:20

EMCS here.DP had normal clothes under theatre greens. I had to take glasses and all jewellry off.

NormaCore Fri 23-Jan-15 00:37:37

I wore mine during my EMCS.
