I'm 40+1 and have my sweep on Friday 40+3- did it work for you???

Really hoping it does as dreading induction...

callamia Wed 07-Jan-15 15:19:59

I think my second one worked. My waters broke a few hours after the sweep and I have birth without the planned induction. Good luck!

Redtractorwontsleep Wed 07-Jan-15 15:22:56

No sorry! Had 2 and neither worked Induced at 40+11 had baby the following day. Good luck!

Justmuddlingalong Wed 07-Jan-15 15:24:06

Nope. Induction was then planned and went ahead. Fingers xed for you, good luck.

No three didn't work and they just made me even more disappointed as I went further and further overdue! Not sure I would bother 2nd time around.

Jackiebrambles Wed 07-Jan-15 15:26:42

Yes, mine did! Had it at around 10am at 40+2, plug went and labour started straight away at 11.30pm.

I think it works well if you are almost there.

No and now at T+10, after sweeps at T+1 and T+8.

Tried all the old wives tales too and none of them worked either.

I had a failed sweep on the Thursday (cervix closed and high), went home very dissapointed with an induction date for the following tues. However, it may have promoted something - I felt a little bruised and noticed a bit of blood. DS arrived on the Saturday

Have a midwives apt tomorrow for a sweep I will be t+6 with dc 2. I am swinging between having high hopes and feeling im just going to be pregnant forever! Dd was born 2 days after sweep on my due day.

sisterelephant Wed 07-Jan-15 23:01:24

Second sweep worked for me. Appt was at 8.30am and I had cramps all day and first contraction around 1am, ds was born the following day at 2.07pm.

Good luck

First one yes, had two for second baby and neither worked immediately although I did go info labour a couple of days after the second.

Sillysausage2 Wed 07-Jan-15 23:13:34

I had 2 and still ended up being induced at 14 days over. I would take the sweep again this time though just in case, anythings better than induction!

MyNameIsButterfly Wed 07-Jan-15 23:48:18

I had 2 with my first child and was still induced. This time around had a sweep 2 days ago, lost my plug and have been in agony ever since but no contractions. should have second one on Friday but i think I'll refuse coz I'm in so much pain already dont want it to make it worse coz would have to suffer until monday.

KissMyFatArse Wed 07-Jan-15 23:58:48

3rd one worked with similar amounts of pessaries, cannot lie I thought they were horrific although I am a total wuss.

First pregnancy neither worked despite being way overdue and eventually induced with the drip. Second pregnancy my first sweep didn't work at 40+5, then when I was 41+5 I woke up with contractions every 10 minutes and they stayed that way all day, I was booked in for induction that night too and still had to go to the appointment because my contractions weren't progressing. Midwife found i was 4cm, gave me another sweep and as soon as I got off the bed after it they were every 3-5 minutes and I was away, had DS 8 hours later smile

BiscuitsofYum Thu 08-Jan-15 08:09:23

My first one sent me into labour but I was very favourable. But it wasn't getting past 2cm (and I started having issues), so the midwives gave me another the next day which did nothing and a third a day after which took me to 3cm before we tried other methods.

I had sweep at 39+ 3 due to reduced movements, then gad stop start labour for 2 nights. Then had to go in as it had been 2 days and they wanted to induce me. They went to put pessary in, which basically was a second sweep, then immediately had contractions 2 mins apart. Gave birth 3 hour later.
So an definite yes!

LittlePink Sat 10-Jan-15 09:47:58

Nope! Didn't work with dd and now I'm 40+6 with ds and had 3 sweeps since 39 weeks. First two gave me pain and bleeding, third one yesterday no pain or bleeding and still sitting here waiting.

Saraswati Mon 12-Jan-15 16:41:53

Yes! Sweep at 11am on Monday 29th dec (bishop score 7), mild contractions in sainsburys from 2pm, baby eventually born at 5.49am on New Years eve!

chiruri Tue 13-Jan-15 15:11:22

My second sweep was done at 39+3, was unfavourable (Bishops 1) and I didn't tolerate it well at all (she ended up not completing the sweep as I felt faint). I went into labour 16 hours later, DD was born less than 24 hours after sweep.
I don't know if that's what did it, but im glad to avoided my planned induction.

GotToBeInItToWinIt Tue 13-Jan-15 15:54:21

No and I found it really really painful. I'm going to say no to a sweep this time round.

ToniWol Tue 13-Jan-15 17:16:59

I had a sweep at 41 which didn't do much (some contractions but nothing major), and I thought the same had happened with the second sweep at 41+3, however I woke up early hours of 41+6 having contractions every 2 minutes, and DD was born later that day (after having my waters broken, they didn't want to go on their own).

RigglinJigglin Tue 13-Jan-15 21:50:35

Had 3 and 2 pessaries, nothing was shfiting DD who was very comfy until the drip came along.

Wadingthroughsoup Tue 13-Jan-15 21:58:52

Yes, mine worked at 41 weeks. I left the midwife clinic, and starting having mild contractions in the car on the way home. But the cervix has to be favourable for it to work, i.e. soft and stretchy (I think, although it's a long time since I read a birth book grin)

Wadingthroughsoup Tue 13-Jan-15 22:01:39

I can't remember where I read/heard it (on here perhaps) but someone referred to stretch and sweep as 'twist and shout' grin
