So waters have gone and everytime I get up sit down move they keep on coming. Went to maternity unit and the midwife does not think they have gone and that it just a increase in discharge but it isn't as It is literally pouring I have had to change my pants 3 times even though I have pads on (sorry for the tmi). So she has sent me home but I am getting mild infrequent contractions as well so I am trying to get some sleep and relax but I am wide awake with excitement this is my first lol. Is it possible then my midwife was right or has she made a mistake ?? Also please keep me occupied because I can't sleep xx

I thought my waters had gone with dd1 and actually so did the midwife, until dd Was coming out sac in tact.

Was told that is was probably a hormone leaking Confused

Am not sure but make sure you go back to get checked no later than 48 hours in case if infection.( if you aren't in active labour sooner)

When my waters went they tested the liquid to check if it was my waters or not. Even though they were gushing everywhere the Dr still said he had to check.

You have 24 hours from your waters breaking until your risk of infection starts to go up so assuming that you are full term and otherwise healthy I'd try to get some sleep and call the midwife again in the morning.

Did she test to see if they were your waters? The midwife had a special giant cottonbud thingy which she rubbed on my pad and it changed colour when it came into contact with amniotic fluid (rather than wee or anything).

I guess you'll be much comfier at home - good luck.

She didn't test them but she said she took a swab to send off to make sure I don't have a infection or something and I did think I had weed the first time it happened but now I know it not as it all clear and my pee is very dark all the time. I am 38+2 so am called as term now and yeah I am healthy apart from a high bmi ....also how do I know when it is active labour ? Xx

I was told to call the hospital when my contractions were lasting 45 secs, coming every 3 mins and were painful enough that I couldn't talk through them. This was after my waters had gone.

If you went up tonight to get checked out, that midwife will hopefully have finished her shift if you go back in the morning. Are you still leaking? When my waters had gone, I was told to lie down for 30 mins wearing a pad, then to stand up and see what came out (the water would pool whilst lying down, then gravity would kick in when stood up).....I didn't need to do that as water continued to come out whilst lying down Blush

Hope this is the start of things for you and you don't have to wait too much longer for your baby :)

Ooo I think I am while off that heat as my contractions are very irregular and not really that painfull more jaut a mild discomfort. I am stil leaking I fell asleep earlier on and when I rolled over i leaked and when I stood up so I have had to change my pants 4 times even though I had a pad on. I kinda do hope this is the start too even though I would have preferred her to wait till due date. Also what will they do if I not in like proper labour by the time 24 hrs after Walters going is up ?? Xx

Don't worry about the 24 hours thing, when my waters went they said that had increased now to 72 hours. It means you shouldn't have any internal exams to reduce risk of infection. Amniotic fluid smells like semen, my midwives always asked for a pad to sniff!
When mine went, labour didn't start for a good 36 hours afterwards, so be patient. Fingers crossed things kick off soon

My waters went at 10:30pm on a weds and was told if things didn't kick off on their own to come in for induction first thing in the morning on the Friday. As it was, my contractions started on their own so i went back to the hospital.

When back in hospital I was examined internally, which increases infection risk so they were more bothered about the 24 hour thing then, although not too bothered as I ended up having EMCS after about 26 hours (failure to progress, and I'd been on syntocin drip for 12 hours so there was plenty of time to decide on c section earlier if needed as baby was happy and had normal obs throughout)

DS and I just had more frequent obs for 24 hours to make sure there was no infection.

Try to get plenty of rest now while you can, and at least if your baby arrives soon you'll be more settled by Christmas than if you went at EDD or 2 weeks over :)

I tried to sleep best I could last night and the midwife did give me a examination last night but said to me if it keeps on happening to go back and it has been happening all night till this morning where my belly is literally half it size and it hurts when baby wiggles as obviously there is no water between baby and me now as I have literally been leaking all night it is hurrendous so I am going to get my cleaning done this morning and have a bounce and hopefully that will bring my contractions back and I will go down to hospital at lunch time to kick up a stink as I know 100% it is my waters and yeah they do smell like semen I couldn't quite put my finger on the smell but that is what it is thank you and I will let you all know how we get on but I should hopefully have a baby by the weekend xx

When my waters went mW said they hadn't. 5 hours later I had dd2. Afterwards the mws wetter sorting out my notes and oneone confused mw asked me "so, when DID your waters go?". I felt so vindicated that I hadn't actually wet myself like the first one thought.
