Am 38 weeks tomorrow and booked for my section at 39+4. Just wondered how common/unusual it was for someone to start labour before.

I did with my third dc. At 30 weeks they jabbed me with steroids and have me nefidipine. Labour stopped. 33 weeks it all kicked off again and they did an emergency section.

Usually if you are booked in for a section and don't want to or can't progress with labour they will do an emergency section :)

I started with contractions the day before (40+9 btw!) but my waters/show didn't happen, so I lay down as much as possible, to take his head off my cervix, so the contractions didn't continue. (3rd pg, so I knew what contractions/labour felt like btw).

I'm sure if you contact your unit/hospital if it starts, they'll bring you in for your section straight away- all emcs are done through contractions, obviously.

Twice I have and twice just rang up and went in and had c-secs earlier than planned. One was 33 weeks and one was 36 weeks.

Me! I was booked in for Monday past at 39+3 but my waters broke Friday night.
They admitted me & did the section on Saturday afternoon, classifying it as An emergency at 39+1.
I was 2cm dilated &"was worried incase things progressed & I had it labour naturally as my c-section was for maternal health reasons but this was not the case & everyone could not have been nicer.
This was my first pregnancy.

Hi Gennz,
I was beyond nervous, crying, shaking Etc. The cannula & local anaesthetic were the worst parts - as well as the wierd sideways tipping on the theatre table!! But it was honestly a positive experience , everything went smoothly & we have the most perfect baby boy.
I'm healing & moving well - def get up & move ASAP afterwards, move your legs & ankles on the bed etc. I did nearly pass out when they got me up To shower the next day but I think that was having bloods taken, catheter removed & cannula removed all before any breakfast. Def eat regularity to keep your strength up!
Would def have another c-section, they even let my parents into the recovery area afterwards.
Sorry for derailing thread!!

I did! I was booked in for 39+2 for maternal health reasons, but went into labour at 37 weeks. Thankfully it was slow to progress and so there was time for steroids before a relaxed section at 37+2. The recovery was fine, I was one of the lucky ones who barely noticed they'd had surgery, I took paracetamol for a couple of days but then nothing as I was in no pain. I think if it's relaxed (i.e. not a crash section) it makes a massive difference all round.
