Tea and toast after... different medication?

I ended up needing a spinal and forceps and other such unpleasantness when my son was born.

I never got tea and toast (although regular protocol in my hospital is to have it). I always put this down to the fact that they kind of put me in a side recovery ward and (literally) forgot about me.

But have I been unduly harsh? Could this have been because of the spinal?

I eventually had some toast about 6 hours after, by which time I was so hungry I felt sick. And I was sick. But not my point... I was really hungry after DS was born and had been looking forward to the legendary tea and toast I had heard so much about.

No-one ever explained why I didn't get any. So did they just forget me or could this have been spinal related?

I didn't get any either and was upset at the time!

I had not had a spinal.

I'm sure it was because (basically) they were fucking useless. They neglected to feed me even though I'd eaten nothing for 16 hours. I felt diabolical after dd1's birth.

Dd2: different hospital, ELCS, so I had a spinal. She was born at 11am (I'd eaten nothing since midnight); I had hot, buttered toast and jam on the recovery ward Grin So happy Grin

Did you ask? I had both my sections in the middle of the night and didn't have anything to eat until 6am, although I didn't really want anything. I wasn't offered but all the staff were running round like blue-arsed-flies as they were so busy.

I didn't get tea and toast either - had to get a spinal to retrieve the placenta. Think I was just forgotten. DH got some though!

I had a spinal for my section and was starving afterwards but was told I wasn't allowed food for 4-6 hours, can't remember the reason why. It was torture as I hadn't eaten since the night before and was ravenous!

Didn't ask as I didn't know at the time it was usual practice. Also felt very uncomfortable about asking for anything - I was in (emotional) shock and feeling very vulnerable.

By the time I cottoned on that some food would really be awesome DP had gone home (he was 'too tired'), I had no call button, no crib to put DS in, DS was naked with no nappy on. They'd got me some squash (which they left at the end of the bed) but that was it.

It was only at the debrief that I found out I possibly should have had some tea and toast!

I was given a sandwich and some orange juice. DH was offered the same. It was around 11.30pm.

I asked about 5 times for mine and almost cried when DH rolled up with a handsome cheese and tomato baguette and diet coke at 2pm (DD1 born at 9:30am after a 30 hour labour). Bless him Smile

I did get tea and toast, though OH ate it as I fell asleep about 3 minutes after giving birth.

I woke up at midnight and was given toast and orange juice.

No tea and toast here!!

But the nurse snuck me a biscuit off her own plate as is was nearly INSANE with hunger. They definitely forgot about me!

I got tea and toast straight after ds1 birth. It was the best tea and toast I have had in my whole life...ever!!

After ds2 birth I got tea and an egg mayo sandwich which was just disgusting! There were custard creams but it wasn't the same. Apparently the use of the toaster has been banned because they kept setting the fire alarm off. No more toast ever again! It's terrible Confused

I'm dreading the food after having our baby, I have a thing about stale bread! Gonna make sure I've got plenty of biscuits with me. When I had my gallbladder out, they wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I ate a ham sandwich, it was so dry it was just revolting. My DH had to eat it for me otherwise I would still be in there now!

I wasn't offered any after my sections (and had been looking forward to the legendary tea and toast!). After my section with DS2 I begged for some, they eventually brought some, and I promptly threw it all back up Blush. Apparently the spinal can have that effect.

I found the tea and toast after having dd1 completely underwhelming. I had chocolate covered pretzels and a carton of Ribena after having dd2, which was AMAZING. Planned post-natal snacks ftw!

I had too much and threw up (nearly all over the baby)

Very underwhelmed by it to be honest. Would have preferred some chocolate.

I got tea and toast. The tea wasn't the best but the toast was marvellous. It was about 2am by the time they finished stitching (DD was born at 11:45pm) and I hadn't eaten since breakfast the day before.

I didn't get tea and toast. DH did though! But give them their dues I did have a general anaesthetic and was quite poorly afterwards. I pissed n moaned about it so much I did get it 2 days later where I only managed half a slice!

All I got was a tuna sandwich - I'm vegetarian!
I didn't eat the entire time I was in hospital and hadnt been warned to take anything in. Luckily I wasn't in too long (went in early hours of the morning, home by 6pm).
It's one of the reasons dd2 (and hopefully dd3) was born at home.

I was offered it, but I'm coeliac so politely declined. DH went out and got me food!

I went in for c section 7am Christmas Eve and the first thing they gave me to eat was revolting Xmas dinner at 1pm the next day. Post natal ward was probably the worst experience of my life.

I got tea and toast a couple of hours afterwards, it was fucking shite. Cold, black toast, with a layer of unmelted butter. Mmm.
