Hospital baby bag - is 0-3months ok?

Is it ok to only take 0-3 months vests and baby grows to the hospital?

Or should I really be going out and buying newborn, first size, one month etc?

Trying to save money so I can get the most use from things but also what if I buy, and wash a load of newborn etc and I have a big baby?

Will baby look ridiculous?

My DS was 8lb 10 and the 0-3 things I took for him absolutely drowned him. But could just be down to different shops having slightly bigger/smaller sizes.

Op I would get some newborn sleep suits and vests....I bought all 0-3 and my dd was drowned in them. She was really long aswell so not a little dot.

0-3 may look a bit big. But you can roll up the sleeves.

Really does depend on the baby. DS was 8lb 11oz and v long so newborn stuff was going nowhere near him. I found that Sainsburys 0-3 came up longer than Next, Morhercare or M&S but that was a few years ago now.

There's no way of knowing! Newborn clothes swamped my two six-pounders (and I was told I was having a big baby the first time!) We went and bought a couple of tiny baby outfits just to have something that fitted!

Can you pick up a couple of newborn babygros in the supermarket? Morrisons Nutmeg range is good! Most newborn clothes go up to 10lbs so likely to fit unless you have a whopper!

What's the weight on your 0-3 stuff? Newborn is usually up to about 10lbs. I didn't bother buying first size or up to one month as that's usually only 7-8lbs. As it happened DH had to go out and buy Tiny Baby size for DD and DS needed early baby size (smaller than TB) as they were both pretty dinky.

Unless you're expecting to have a big baby I'd say you'll probably need a bit of newborn sized stuff. Mine all fitted in clothing beyond the stated weight range.

Go with up to 1 month. My ds was too big (long) or newborn even though born on the 50th percentile. Just get basi white sleepsuits.

I only bought newborn to hospital but dd (godzilla baby) wouldn't fit into any of it. She was 9lb3 and very long though.

I would recommend 0-3 as you can just roll up the sleeves. Better that than not being to get the baby in the clothes.

0-3 months would only fit a very unusually large newborn. They are sized so that a typical 3 month old can fit in them and a typical 3 month old can be 70-100% heavier than birth weight!

Buy some of 0-3 month of course because whatever the birth-weight your baby will fit them sooner or later.

The sizes generally overlap a bit so you can happily skip alternate sizes to save on having too many options.

If you could have a relative on standby for an emergency trip to mothercare if needed, just buy a single outfit of the smaller sizes and only buy more if you decide you need to.

My 6lb newborn was swamped in 0-3. Rolling up the sleeves would have done nnothing, his little legs barely made it into the legs of the sleep suits! My parents had to go and buy some tiny baby stuff. He wore that for a few weeks, then went to newborn which probably lasted until he was about 8 weeks old I think.

And I thought we were being so sensible not biyimg anything in "newborn"...

I would say newborn. In fact all 3 off mine wore Tiny Baby sleepsuits for a week or so. 0-3 would have looked ridiculous on them. They were all around the 7lb mark too!

Taking 0-3 vests etc will mean your baby will have something to wear, no one will think that he/she looks ridiculous either way.

You could buy a newborn starter pack and leave it unopened to use if the 0-3 stuff is way to big, if the 0-3 things fit at least you can get a refund on the newborn things.

DC1 was the only baby that fitted newborn from birth, DC's 2 and 3 were big and long so went into 0-3 which is what I have packed this time.

DS was 7lb and needed Early Baby size for the first month or so.

DD was 8lb and needed Newborn for the first few weeks.

0-3 would have looked awful! Sorry OP...it is shit when you don't want to spend a fortune. Primark, Tesco, Asda, all saved me.

are you likely to have a big baby? DS1 was 9lb 13oz DD1 was 9lb 8oz so 0-3 was fine for them but we always knew they were big babies. newborn didn't fit them at all.

No need to apologise, id rather know now than all the first pics and memories of baby being in a tent!
Should I take some newborn AND 0-3... or leave 0-3 at home altogether?

DS2 was 10lb 13oz and didn't fit into the cute newborn outfit I'd bought especially for him in H&M :(

But he did just about fit into newborn stuff from Peacocks - he grew out of it in about a week.

He's now 14 weeks and in 6-9 months clothes. I bought him a few bits in the sale at Polarn and most of it only got worn once.

Moral of the story - only buy cheap baby stuff. And sizes vary in different shops.

I would leave 0-3 at home. It's going to be too big, unless your baby ends up being well over 10lb!

Get some smaller ones OP. It took ages for ds to grow into his 0-3 size stuff, and he was an average size at birth.

I've no idea what sort of size I'm expecting. First baby. How do you find out?
I'm 36 weeks tomorrow, fundal (sp?) height thing is right for my weeks and always has been .
If it means anything I was born at 35 weeks at 6lb 3, brother on time and. 6 lb. 13. But I don't think it's runs in the family does it?

I bought Newborn for the hospital bag and dd was 6lb 11 and loooong and still looked swamped. Dh picked up a three pack of vests and same sleepsuits in Tiny Baby on our next supermarket shop. Definetly go for New born.

My little dink was only 5 5 and didn't make it into 0-3 till he was 4 months old- I remember being thrilled when he hit 10lb at that point. Now looking over at him taking up all of the sofa, size 9 feet aged 15 and eating me out of house and home!

!y friend had a six pound baby a couple of weeks ago- 0-3 vests are big but not ridiculously so , sleep suits of the same size bury him though.

Maternal birth weight is a good indicator, but not exact. Generally speaking you don't grow a baby you can't birth, but there are exceptions of course. It's unlikely you're going to give birth to a ginorma-baby if you were quite little and you've not got gestational diabetes or anything like that.

Think of 0-3 size as from 10lbs upwards.
