Just turned 7 weeks pregnant with my first. Very excited but as I'm in the public eye and will most likely make news when I do announce, when is it safe for me to tell the public I'm expecting? In other words, when is it more safe that there won't be miscarriage/altercations

Usually it's announced after 12 weeks.

Congratulations babylove789 in the public eye :)

Considered more safe after 12 weeks.... i was outed at around 7 weeks and frankly I just felt too excited to keep it in anyway!! Different though if people are actually bothered about what is happening in your life mind....

Hi Babylove,

First of all congratulations...exciting times indeed! I think the answer to your question is highly personal and subjective. For some people, twelve weeks is considered the 'safe' point at which to share the wonderful news but for others (difficulties late in previous pregnancies, older mothers, difficult family situations etc) it can be much later.

I suppose the time that people incessantly speculate ad nauseum would be the cut off point in denying a pregnancy. As I say, I think it's incredibly subjective and only you know the implications for you in publicising the news of your pregnancy.

I wish you well and hope you have a thoroughly positive, healthy, happy pregnancy.

Hi Amanda Grin

12 weeks usually, but if you are lucky you could string it out until 20. I did, and tbe world couldn't have given a shit if I was pregnant or not.

I thought this was going to be a thread about One Born Every Minute Grin

Most people wait until after 12 weeks, but I've known a few people wait until after 20 weeks and no-one was any the wiser.

Congratulations!

If it is your first it is easier to conceal for longer. Subsequent pregnancies your belly seems to give you away early on! I've had friends go to their 12 week scan believing all is well and finding out they have had a missed miscarriage which is devastating so many people wait 'til they've had a scan to confirm the baby is doing well, heart beating etc before 'going public'

On a serious note, I've had friends have bad news at a 20w scan but it depends if the media speculation might give the game away sooner.

You'll be wanting to tell friends/family sooner I guess, depending on how much you show. But wanting them to find out first and not via the papers (which did happen to someone I know).

I'd say 12-16 weeks, longer if you can get away with it if you want to. 3 months is the general 'tell people' time though.

Congratulations :)

cat deeley is awesome if you are her, I'm so glad she married that irish boy he's lovely

As others have said 12 weeks is a normal point
I managed to have a baby without people I see every day realising I was pregnant, that was at 6 months. Depending on how big you get you could keep it quiet for quite a while if you chose Tom

Im 27 weeks and only told people last week, no one had a clue! If you don't get a bump quickly, you can keep it a secret for ages. Congrats!

There is no normal time to announce. Lots of people chose to wait until after 12 weeks as the risk of unknown complications is highest before then but many people chose to wait until its obvious visually. Some may get forced to tell due to being unwell.

You only have to decide when you are comfortable with people knowing but remember the sooner they know the longer it appears to take as you will be dealing with questions ect for longer.
