Epiostomy Issue

I gave birth to my daughter in February, in a well ranked NJ hospital. The midwife performed epiostomy, however she failed to saw the wound all the way along the cut. I found a labiaplasty surgeon to finish the job, but the surgery is expensive and is not covered by insurance. After that I found a good medical malpractice lawyer who instructed me to find a third party gynecologist who would write an affidavit of merit about my new condition, if he would find it true. I don’t know where to start from.
Is there anybody who shares the same problem?

the problem is that this is a British board, and the system of healthcare is TOTALLY different from the US. the laws governing medical negligence are also very, very different. i know, i'm an american expat myself.

your matter is for the civil courts to pursue, and it's likely you'll have to pay out of pocket for expert opinions and then sue the ivolved parties to cover the costs in addition to compensatory damages and other legal costs.

i suggest perhaps visiting a forum in the US such as webmd.com. there may be someone who has had to sue for malpractice there, perhaps even in your state, and can better advise.

best of luck.

you can also appeal to your insurance for another opinion.

i had kaiser permanente as my last insurer, and the GP was pretty good at referring on for specialist treatment.

God how depressing

Glad I live in the UK where they would just fix it for free

too right, mp.

one of the big reasons i'll never live in the US again is the whole health insurance load of bollocks.

I have a similar problem. My episiotomy was left unstitched, leaving me with a gaping wound for 3 months which has healed badly. I also torn internally, leaving me with an undiagnosed haematoma. My baby is 16 months old. I am still trying to find a second surgeon to operate on my internal problems (the job needs 2 experienced surgeon) and no surgeon willing to sort out the external problems. The last doctor I saw said there was nothing wrong with me and was really nasty. I am losing hope. I am devastated by my injuries.

Good luck with getting it sorted out.
