Following the birth of DS and subsequent 3rd degree tear I have been told by my consultant that a CS is advised for my next birth - and I have just found out that I'm pregnant!

Are CS always at 39 weeks or does it depend on the hospital? Will be having the baby at Frimley Park if anyone has any personal experience of their policy.

TIA!

Hi there I think most centres aim to do elective sections at around 39 weeks. This is because before then there's a higher risk of respiratory complications in the baby. Elective sections can be done later of course but then you face a higher chance of the mother going into spontaneous labour before the planned date.

Many thanks for this information. It seems to vary depending on pregnancy and hospital.

Will we get to choose date of birth?

There may be scope for some negotiation - but it will depend on how they book the sections in your hospital - ie whether your consultant operates on a set day per week and how many other patients are already on the list.

I had all 3 of mine nearer 38 weeks and iirc they were all either on a Monday or a Wednesday depending on when the consultant was working but I do remember having a choice of dates.

Good luck, I loved all of my sections Smile
