How to sleep...

Had a sweep yesterday and was apparently 2-3cms already (at 39+6). Started having contractions soon after, fairly irregularly, but at 9.45pm they cranked up, coming every 2-4 minutes lasting 45 seconds or so. Trip to hospital at half 11 had me monitored for half an hour, which seemed to slow it all down a bit. Apparently still 2-3cms too. Was sent home. Still getting same contractions and am now bloody tired. Anyone have any ideas how I can get some sleep?

I had a similar start to labour although managed to go in three times (with extended family in ow each time). It is so freaking disappointing turning up and then going home again.

Can you have a bath? Drape warm face cloths over your tummy to stop it getting cold. have a couple of paracetemols, warm bath warm milk and then try to lie down.
When you are in bed if you can't sleep could you do some lying down meditation or relaxation. Did you do any hypno birthing/yoga/antenatal breathing exercises? Or just eyes shut empty r mind and focus on breathing in for 3 and out for 3.
You could get your partner to search on line for a guided meditation session or something like that.

It sounds close. Good luck.

Thanks for replying! Dozed a bit in between contractions for a while, breathing through them when they came. Getting more painful now (but wondering whether that's the tiredness). Don't want to go back in to be told to go away again. Waters still haven't gone, but with DC1 they had to be broken when I was fully dialated

Oh that sounds positive.
I found having hot hot showers really helpful for the early to middle stage. If your are no longer able to lie down that might help give you an hour or two to make sure things are really moving along.

Have you called in support so someone is there for your DC?

They will be more then happy for you to go back in when you feel like.

You will have the strength and energy to make it through!

I couldn't lie down it hurt too much. Found a chair and foot stool with a duvet my best option for at least a rest.

It's sounding like things are moving along for you so hopefully not long now Thanks

Hello

So yesterday morning Decided at around 6 to get DP up and time contractions. 2 mins apart and lasting 45 secs decided to ring the hospital to go back in. We were told they were now full and unable to take us, so were sent to a different hospital 20 miles away! We got there at half 7, DD arrived at 9.17am. On her due date too! 8lbs 11oz. Got home today and have an extremely cuddly baby

Thanks for your support the other night. Was getting fed up.
