Childbirth

How many days in the difference between when your first and second labours started?

My first baby came on his due date. 40+0.
My midwife said that gestations are usually about the same give or take a day or two.

I'm wondering what other mums experiences are with second babies. Were they born around the same point of the pregnancy or was there a week or two (or more) in the difference?

My mum arrives to take care of DS when I'll be 37+5. I just hope I make it that far as my other childcare options are far from ideal. We don't have family close by and both my friends that I've asked agreed but their situations are far from ideal (one has a special needs child, the other has 3 kids with another on the way) so I really don't want to depend or impose on them.

So, were your pregnancies about the same length?

1st a week early

2nd a week late

a tendency which has stuck with them ever since ( 24 and 20!)

First was 14 days late (induced at 12 days late) and second was 11 days late (spontaneous labour) so pretty similar for me.

Both of mine arrived a day 'early', but the labours started a good 48 hours before on and off.

Both 11 days. 1st labour was 3 days long, 2nd was 2 hours. Both babies same size too.

I am wondering the same! My DS came at 38+6 and I don't have any family locally. My mum will be travelling 2.5 hours to come and look after DS when I go into labour with no. 2 so I'm hoping I'll get plenty of warning but you can't plan these things at all, can you?!

2nd - 3 days early
3rd - 1 day late (well 3 hours late, went into labour on my dd and she arrived at 3am the next morning)
4th - 3 days late

My pregnancies are getting longer, lol.

I wouldn't mind another long latent phase. Just once it doesn't kick off 16 days or more earlier than my first, so my mum is here. A short and easy active phase would be nice! But my baby is back to back so that's not looking very likely at this point. Dreading it to be honest.

Thanks for your replies ladies.

Also, I had difficult time with my first bit second time was totally different experience, so try not to worry (easier said than done). DD2 birth was quick easy and straight after I said "ooh I'd do that again" Smile

DS labour started at 41 weeks.
DD1 was induced on due date so don't know how late she'd have been
DD2 5 days late.

With both DS and DD2 I had niggly pains, lots of trips to the loo, backache all day before labour properly kicking off.
I think you'll know it's starting, so would have time to make plans.

DS1 born on his due date
DS2 born 6 days early (and he was 2lb 6 oz heavier!)

I am eternally grateful I don't know what it is really like to go overdue.

Dd2 was 1 day late

They weighed the same.

Dd1 arrived at 41+2, dd2 at 39+4. I was convinced dd2 would be late and thought I had at least a week to get loads done. She's now 14 weeks old and I've still not worked my way through that ' to do' list, surprisingly!
