posted here and pregnancy because not sure which will have most people in the know..

I know that you shouldn't visit a newborn if you have a coldsore
but what if the MUM has a coldsore?
I never usually get em
I have a lump and a tingle on the side of my mouth
baby imminent, what do I do??? will I have to move out?

I wouldnt kiss the baby if you do get an outbreak and make sure things that come into contact with you mouth dont go near babies mouth. I get them all the time and when I had dd midwife said no kissing as it can cause blindness in the baby, that was a long time ago now so info may have changed.

dont kiss the baby and dont touch the cold sore and then touch the baby. DH gets cold sores but neither of my 2 children have been affected (and neither have I)

Ditto the above, and breastfeed, it will give baby added protection.

Consider acyclovir by cream or tablet. GP can prescribe. It shortens the length of outbreak and can avert it altogether.
