Should I have c-section for second birth?

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and had a terrible first birth. My labour progressed really slowly, then my second stage (pushing) was 4 hours with no epidural and an oxytocin drip. My DD was eventually born with episiotomy and ventouse. She was 9lbs 5oz and had to be resusitated because she'd been stuck in the birth canal for too long. I'm due next May and at a recent midwife appt they said I need to think about my next labour - ie, the baby could be bigger and I could face similar problems. One midwife I saw even said I was lucky I didn't prolapse because I pushed a big baby for so long. I'm seeing a consultant in 2 weeks and one option he's going to discuss with me is a c-section. However, I'm wary about having one with a toddler to look after. Does anybody have any advice for me? Or been in a similar situation? Part of me thinks that second time labour will surely be easier (?!) but the other part of me is worried I'll damage my body with another long, drawn out labour with a big baby.

My dd's birth very similar, induced, nothing happened, put on drop, epidural didn 't work pushed for 3 hours, forceps, 9lb 6 baby. Induced with ds, no pain relief as not checked until found pushing on induction ward and gd shot out minx later .

I'm having a c section this time due to a medical condition and more scared of how to cope on my own after a big op with two other dc

My first was 9 lb 11 and delivered ventuose. Second child was nearly two pounds lighter and delivered in less than two hours. So big baby first time around doesn't necessarily mean bigger next time, and labor could be shorter/easier next time. That said, I am considering C-section for current pregnancy, but only due to my own medical issues. Otherwise I would definitely go for a vaginal birth, as I will have 3 under age 4 when this one arrives!

Sounds more like first labour was mismanaged! Perhaps etter to have a growth scan at 36w for estimated weight, and if its not much bigger to go for normal birth, but to be sure it's managed properly- 4h pushing is not good for your pelvic floor!! Having said that my el c/s was a wonderful experience and though I couldn't lift toddler while I was standing, had no problem liftingg him onto my lap while I was seated as that uses arm muscles and not tummy muscles. Was also on my feet and managing stairs fine from the day we got home.

I had an EMC with DS1 and ended up having a CS with DS2, I had been worrying endlessly up to my due date about what to do, but my contractions were every 2 mins and I wasn't dilated at all. I was told that the same thing would happen as with DS1 and I didn't want an EMC so I was whisked into theatre for a CS. I wish labour had progressed and I could have had a natural birth. However, if it is best for you and your baby go for it. Stock up on peppermint tea, paracetamol and arnica pillules - they do help. My second CS was 4 months ago and although at times my tummy and scar hurt, I am coping and reiterate what KnockedUp said. Good luck with whatever choice you make.
