I'm 32+3 and have felt tightening's for a couple of weeks every now and then. I had the m/w this morning who when feeling my tummy said ooh your having a tightening. I said i'd been having them but today i've been having more than normal and have backache. they don't hurt really but they make me stop what i'm doing and stand straight and really know it's happening. they seem to last about 40 seconds to a minute then go and come back?

Don't want to ring and be a over reacting as am sure it's fine but what if it is labour?!?

If they are regularly spaced and frequent, rather than every now and then, they could be tightenings/early contractions rather than BH. I didn't have/wasn't aware of any BH when I had my DD but this time, I've had LOADS. Sometimes they are a bit 'insistent" in that they radiate around my back slightly, but they are frequent but irregular, so I know they're just a trial run. I'm 38wks so a different situation to you.

If they are regular, you have any water/blood or you have any other cause for concern etc I would call your MW/assessment unit for advice. I had to call mine twice yesterday and not once was I made to feel like I was mad/wasting anyone's time.

Last Wednesday and Sunday I had bh every ten minutes for most of the day.

If its actually labour they'll feel more like period cramps than tightenings, and they'll become more frequent and painful.

If you're concerned, give the mw a call. But it sounds like bh to me.
