Premature birth...

... almost.

Last Wednesday evening I had to call delivery ward after a day of pain in back and abdmomen (at 28.3 weeks).

Went to hosp where they discovered changes to cervix and 1cm dilation. I was put on drip to halt contractions and 2 steroid injections 24 hours apart.

The contractions settled (although the backache didn't) and, after 5 days, was discharged and told to return if any further pain or water/blood loss.

I am now 29.3 and terrified about the baby coming at any time.

Has anyone else had this/similar experience with threat of/and early delivery?

Many thanks in advance.

It could go either way. I've known women on bed rest from 24 weeks due to changes in cervix and contractions who have gone full term, and even a woman on strict bed rest from 18 weeks who came off bed rest at 36 weeks and then had to be induced as the baby showed no signs of coming at term.
Also known those who even on strict bed rest and the anti contraction drugs who went on to deliver premature babies, despite every effort to keep them cooking a bit longer.
Best advice is to keep off your feet as much as possible and drink lots of water. Any sign of cramps, diarrohea, show, change in discharge, ring the hospital straight away for advice. the sooner they stop the contractions the better. Good thing is that they have stopped the contractions, and that the baby has had the steroids, which at this stage significantly improve the chances of the baby doing well if it's born early, and less likely to have long term breathing issues. My friends little boy was born at 28 weeks and is now a fit and healthy 7yo.
