Had twinges this morning and at mw appt was just told baby is 3/5 engaged and had properly dropped.

No nearby family so relying on friends to look after DC1 and DM being able to catch the first flight over from Ireland so that she can be with me.

My question is when do you think I should mobilise the troops? MW obv non commital re whether it would be hours/days/weeks but seemed to think sooner rather than later... Eeeek! Help! I don't want to rush DM over only for her to have to hang around for a week whilst my poor dad goes feral at home!

umm. Not wishing to be the voice of doom, I was 3/5 engaged at 38 week MW with DC2. And then not engaged at 40 week MW. I think if it's not your first they might not really stay put till labour starts.

Sorry!

Sorry I can't really help but I'm interested in what people say here because I'm 3/5 engaged with dc2 too!

I'm 37 weeks now though and was also 3/5 at my 35 week apt too so am inclined to say not necessarily imminent. Second babies can move in and out of being engaged as well apparently, which seems right to me as sometimes I feel more engaged and can barely walk but other times I can tell she's higher up. I guess it depends how far along you are, in terms of whether to mobilise the troops!

Yep, I'm the same hidethecrisps, have been 3/5 engaged (2nd baby) since my 36wk appointment and I'm 39wks now (still 3/5 engaged) and nothing seems too imminent. Feel like I'm walking with a bowling ball between my legs but no signs of labour.

I'm afraid you may just have to play it by ear OP, the baby engaging isn't always a sign that things are going to kick off soon

Yes sadly engaged doesn't mean baby coming soon ...

I'm 38 + 5, been 3/5 engaged for a while and still nothing. DC3 though...I'm told he can disengage even Confused

Most disappointed that no one is saying it will be x number of days as I'm 38+1 and 3/5ths engaged, getting BH all the time. Also so tiered need to sleep!

Oh just remembered I won't be doing that once baby is here.

I thought this would be a good idea a second time round because????

ah, but hellobear, you'll be not sleeping for a different reason. As my DP said to me this morning, very helpfully!

Am 40+5 and not holding my breath. I can walk again today though, unlike yesterday, so I think she's higher up again. Weird stuff!

I can't help I'm afraid but new to mumsnet and a FTM. Due in 16 days but have convinced myself that doc has got EDD wrong according to my own dates. Iv been having scans every 4 weeks since start due to condition and each time baby is measuring 1 week ahead. Got a scan yesterday and baby is already 7lbs 13oz!!

Probably deluding myself in the wishful thinking that baby will arrive early but having tons of BH, period like cramps (irregular), backache, sharp vag pains, aching lower body in general lol and bouts of energy/lack of etc and convincing myself it will! Am 3/5ths engaged too.

I hope you don't mind me joining this thread but hoping a you all already mums you could help as I can't take anymore of this waiting!!

Addicted - it sounds like you are getting close. I had lots of twinges and stonger BH towards the end.

I was 3/5 engaged from 36 weeks. I was still 3/5th engaged on my due date- dd2 was born the following day. (40+1) labour was half the length of dd1 labour. I had an extra hot nando's the day before- maybe that helped to kick things off!

Mmmm interesting arty Jenny.. Anything to keep my hopes up! Anything spicy gives me horrendous heartburn when I go to bed so leaving that as a last option! On the ball and taking raspberry leaf tea :)

Sorry to bear ill news but along the same lines as others have said, I was 3/5ths at 38 weeks... and at 42 weeks! My baby didn't engage until right before my labour started after my waters were broken in hospital Grin I'm stubborn and so are my babies (DS1 40+17 DS2 40+19 Grin )
