Maternity Pads

Hi all,

Just wondering, what do you all rate as the best maternity pad?
I dont have a clue to get or where to get them from?

Tesco own worked for me, hated Mothercare. Avoid anything slim or with wings (too scratchy on battered bits!).

Sure it was just boots own make I used.

Were lovely and soft, like sitting on a cushion when you needed it most

Personally I use Kotex Nighttime. They are in a black packet.

They are huge and really padded.

They are everywhere but Home Bargains has them for 99p.

The very best ones are the huge ones they give you in the hospital, try and take home as many as you can?

I would get the super long always night time winged ones and then put the maternity pad on top. I just used the sainsburys own ones which are lovely and soft but don't have wings. So layering them on an always towel adds a layer of protection for leakage.

I used both Morrison's and Boots own and I think they were exactly the same. Nice and thick. No leakage problems. About a pound for 10.

Kotex night time or any cheap make, you'll change them so often the thicker and cheaper the better. Also buy some disposable bed protectors boots sell them to protect your mattress.

Boots thick ones. IMO a night time sanitary towel won't do as if you have had stitches you will appreciate the padding that proper maternity towels give.

I was lucky in the sense that I stopped bleeding quickly but I carried on wearing the Boots pads for a few extra days to cushion my episiotomy.

This may sound really stupid but nappies are the way to go

Seriously, it works! I'd had 4 dc before anyone mentioned this to me. As soon as you've given birth, whip open a pack of newborn nappies, open nappy up as wide as it goes and whack it in your undies. They are super soft, super absorbant and have sides that stop the leaks you get with the towels.

I used them for the first couple of days until the bleeding died down then used boots own maternity towels.

Asda's were fine for me but I had a section so my bit weren't sore.

I've been using Sainsburys own (99p per pack). They're great, very much like the ones you get in hospital. I've not had a very heavy flow though so not sure how they'd cope with that but they're pretty thick so I'd imagine they'd be fine. I've also had an episiotomy and they've been great with that.

Cheap ones are fine, but buy more than you can possibly imagine needing! At least a pack a day early on.

Tenalady pants (effectively nappies) with maternity pads in for first 2-3 days. Tenalady pants will last for 3-4 pad changes, you will not leak, you will be padded and held in.

Avoid the dry weave type ones as it can melt stitches. Cheaper own brand ones are perfectly fine.

Tesco own brand. The chunkier the better for lots of padding on your delicate bits.

I like Boots and Tesco ones, didn't like Superdrug. Get a few packs of the thick ones for the first week or so, the extra cushioning is good especially if you've had stitches. Then the slim ones for when the bleeding's calmed down a bit.

The hospital ones were the best. The Kotex ones were good too. I never thought of using nappies, I bet they would be lovely and soft.

seabuckthorn it's the thin ones, you want the fat mattresses that were about before Always et al made thin towels.

Oh I agree completely! I would only use big old thick ones.
