Childbirth

36w and steady strong period pains with queasiness

I said I wouldn't start one of these threads, and I really thought I would just somehow "know", but I don't! I've have period pains off and on for a few days, but this morning they woke me up and they are constant - they don't come and go or pass off at all. Also I feel queasy, which is unusual for me. Could this be it? It's very early!

I have looked at the other threads up today, but they all say their pains are coming and going, and mine has been constant for the last 2 hours since I woke up.

Please help!

Call the midwife out and get checked. Good luck!

Hello :)

I'd ring the ward if I were you and get yourself checked out if they are that constant. Everyone is different, it might be the start of something that will go on for days/weeks or it could be it. Try not to stress.

Ooh good luck! why don't you phone the hospital? Then a midwife will be able to give you some advice.

No waters/show yet, so I think I'll wait and see if they stay. Think I may have been panicking slightly. Indith - are you the future mw off the Durham meet up thread?

Are you still in pain? If you are then please do ring, regardless of show or waters

I think I would contact your midwife because you're a little bit early.

There are lots of things it could be, including a UTI, but you should phone your midwife as you are less than 37 weeks.

Drink plenty of water just in case!

Write down exactly when the pain started, how long it lasts, what kind of pain it is and where you are feeling it. Does it feel better or worse depending on position?

I went into early labour at 36 weeks + a few days, but it started with hind waters going. Having said that, I never had regular waves of contractions, just long periods of pain and discomfort that got worse and sometimes went away, with no pattern at all! (not 2 hours though!)

I'm drinking plenty of water - especially after that thread about monster poos and prolapses/fistulas the other day! And I had a mw checkup yesterday where they checked for a UTI (my mw always does) and she said the intermittent pains I was having at the time were nothing to worry about, just a natural part of being in late pg.

Position doesn't make much difference. I may go back to bed and see if I can sleep it off, but I'm meant to be working at the moment and if I let the client down I'll lose them. Freelance is a bitch.

I had the same towards the end. Was a uti the mw hadn't picked up two days previously. Felt sick and had achy/draggy pains. Perhaps do another sample just for peace of mind?

Called the mw - they said to wait and see but didn't think it meant anything. So I've taken paracetamol and we'll see!

Blooming hurts, though.

Yup that's me (the hopeful one anyway!).

Glad you've called. Maybe have a bath and see if it eases things a little or try a hot water bottle. Much sympathy, have also been having general cramping/period pains/nausea but I am a little further on than you so I really do want to just get on with it and go into labour!

VikingLady · 15/02/2012 10:49

I've put a heat pad on my back, so we'll see. Can't have a bath - it's really narrow and my bum wedges me in it!

Good luck for your getting on with it - when are/were you due?

at the bum sticking. Baths always seem like a good idea until it comes to having to get out of them.....I want a hot tub.

Due on the 21st. Saw the MW yesterday and she wrote "awaiting events" in my notes. Off to bounce in the swimming pool today while I don't have the children. Not that I am really expecting anything before due date since the others were both late but I'm fed up of being pg.

Hope it calms down for you. Failing that wishing you a nice labour and a healthy baby.

oooooooooh! Will keep fingers crossed for you. Mine have always been a ebb and flow type of feeling, even when they are not very painful or regular you can tell when they are not happening iykwim. If it is really sore and constant then it might be worth asking to see a mw to double check for a UTI. Or if you are worried then ask for a check up, labour isn't always like the textbook [voice of experience emoticon]

You've got my mobile number so give me a ring if you need anything- can leave work/abandon children if you need help.

Have you got a bag packed just in case? Will you ask for HB as you are only a bit before 37 weeks?

Hi ya, hope you're ok. I had v bad backache (at 40 wks) which was constant and didnt think anything of it. In fact I only rang the hospital cos I went to the toilet and there was loads of blood! We went there with me panicking thinking something was horribly wrong - turns out I was in labour and 8cm dilated! Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that I was expecting to get stomach pain that came and went but it actually started as constant backache so be prepared in case its the big event!

Report
VikingLady · 15/02/2012 13:42

I think I am as prepared as I can be, but HB is not an option yet - still waiting for them to deliver the stuff to me.

Paracetamol and a heat pack on my back seem to have helped, and DH is home today so is doing the massage thing. It's not getting any worse, so I'll wait and see. Thanks for the offer Spiggy!

Double checking the hospital bag has enough snacks in.

Glad to see he is well trained Wink. Offer stands though- if you do need any help then just give me a shout. I'm in London tomorrow but free any other time. Doesn't have to be if you are in labour- can come for a cuppa and take you to supermarket or stuff like that. Was going to email you today to see if you wanted to meet up before the big event anyway.

I carefully planned snacks with DS1. Then I ended up drinking DH's Lucozade (which I hate) and crunching ice cubes .

When is your due date? I can't remember apart from it being March Blush

Pains are passing off now. Not sure paracetamol and a heat pack plus back massage would do that, so think it was a false alarm. Thank you everyone for making me feel better - I needed someone to talk to! Feeling a little silly now.

[slinking away to eat cake and drink masses and masses of water in case of UTI]

Not being silly at all. Glad is has eased off anyway, hang on until they deliver your boxes! All cramping and grumbling is part of your body getting ready and it is all doing some good.

Different question this time. Am now nearly 39 weeks (and a week overdue according to my own lmp dates), and had a bloody show - is this a reliable indicator? Is it on its way? Please say yes! I've been getting through the raspberry tea like there is no tomorrow, and the whole house smells of clary sage!

Good luck hope you feel better soon - defo get checked out with any concerns whatsover to put Your mind at rest. Don't let anyone fob you off I found with my first that you have to be a little pushy sometimes.
My two labours were not like period pains - there was no mistaking it was the real deal and came in waves - feeling normal in between them. Also getting in the bath at home made them more intense and by the time we got to hospital were 5cm so no need to faff about and go back home etc.
A mw had previously told me if it's false labour the bath would help them tail off - not sure how accurate this is.
Constant pain should be checked regardless but maybe Your body is just adjusting and getting ready to have little one in the next couple of weeks?
I am 34+5 today and not in any rush but it little one could arrive just a little early in time for the Kids school holiday and for me to leave work a few days early I would be super chuffed lol.

A show at 39w+ sounds much more promising Grin

Not a constant pain - in fact no real pain at all now, but I've had a LOT of bh for the last couple of weeks and they are getting stronger... And the baby seems to be pushing around a lot in there, mainly inside my pelvis. So I am cautiously optimistic!

Can't have a bath though. I'm on my own (dh at work) and i can't get out on my own! I'll carry on as usual, and keep an eye on it. Thanks.
