Midwife 'has a feeling' my baby is going to be early - anyone else had this and was it true?!

Had my 36 wk appt today and my midwife said, "I'll make an appointment for 38 weeks, but I don't think you'll make it. There's something about you that makes me think it will come early."

This will be DC2, DC1 was 2 days early...baby is measuring fine, in fact she said she thought it "wasn't big." No other signs of imminent arrival, but I kind of think she might be right and it won't go all the way to 40 weeks.

Has anyone else had their midwife make such a random prediction, and did it come true? Kind of hoping it will be a bit early TBH but not sure next week isn't a bit sooner than I had in mind!

My chiropractor who I saw in pregnancy told me that I would be early, she said about 38.5 (wierdly precise.) In fact ds came at 39.4. So I was early, but not as much as she said.

My midwife said the same, sadly she was wrong! DD was 8 days late!

ParkerRocks I'm not sure whether I want it to be right or not! I think a couple of days early like Moulesfrites would do it...

At my 32 week appointment the midwife said I was measuring slightly over dates and he might come a bit early. A bit being the following week, at 33 + 4. I'm not sure that's quite what she had in mind. Grin

Well, she has a 50% chance of being right, not too bad as odds go :)

My MW and consultant with DD2 told me the same. They told me to be ready from then onwards (35 ish weeks at that point).
DD2 was 13 days late and I was induced Grin

My midwife was convinced I'd be a couple of weeks early with dc3, she was a bit miffed she was on holiday as she wanted to deliver her (home birth). I was 12 days over and due to go in for induction the day she decided to make an appearance Grin, just a couple of hours before we would've had to leave for the hospital.

Basically it's just random, isn't it! Sympathy to you Catsu, after a sightly early one last time I can't bear the thought of going overdue!

DH is fairly relieved about those who did end up going over! I'm still hoping for a slightly early let off though!

My midwife told me she wouldn't see me at my 38 week appt as she'd be visiting me at home. She also said that about my 40 week appt. I wanted to punch her at my 40 week appt and for each of the 6 days overdue. In fact I'm sure I told her I'd sue :D

I was a grumpy git at the end of my pregnancy!!

there have been a few people I have know that me and my friend we have said would be early and they were. Sound weired but it can be something around the face - I would get things ready!

Don't listen to a word she says Grin - fine, might be early, might be late - I think the only thing that this indicates is that your midwife is the type who likes to make the whole thing look deeply intuitive, and that her years spent Among The Pregnant have given her special, almost mystical powers...

I had several comments along these lines - baby big, baby late etc. all based on a quick glance - all nonsense. Harmless, but nonsense. Only becomes a problem when they want to do something (e.g. induce) on 'just a feeling' - that's where you give them a brisk F.O. :)

My mw said something similar at 38 weeks (I'll book you in for 40 week app but I don't think you'll need it - baby very low etc.)
DS arrived 16 days late!

I'm expecting twins so I've been prepared for prem babies from really early on - they seem to be determined to prove everyone wrong (as was dd1 who always went against the text books). I'm now 35w+5 and cs is booked for 37w - babies are so high up I think they'll come out of my mouth before heading downwards!

Yes with my first. He was 12 days overdue.

My midwife thought the same with both.

The ob who scanned me at 36 weeks with ds2 asked me if I thought he would be coming early.

Ds1 was born at 39+5, Ds2 at 40+1.

Do you think if your looking a bit peed of with it all they just say it to give you a boost? My dd was 2 weeks early, she said 2nd probs would be and he was 10 days late - i defo think she just said it coz i was a big hot sweaty mess with a face like a smacked arse Grin

I was told that DS definitely wouldn't be late by the doctor at around 37 weeks but I managed to make it to 42+1

My MW said from 32 weeks that she wouldnt be seeing me pg again as he was going to be here anyday, I saw her at 34 weeks, then 36 both times saying the same thing, I was being closely monitored throughout pg and at 36 weeks she said she reckoned I would go into labour within 48 hours, at 39 week check I went in crying and called her a liar, I gave birth on my due date!
