Severe nausea & diarrhea @ 39+6..advice needed please

Hello - I've been pretty ill this week - so much so it's taken 5 days for me to even get onto MN!! It started with incredible nausea on Sunday and then swiftly followed by severe diarrhea. I had to stop eating completely and then promptly stopped sleeping too, so was feeling totally lousy.

I went to the Mw on Tuesday, whose first thought was to send me to hospital for testing. She then got a second opinion from a senior mw who said to leave it for another 48 hrs to wait for any improvement.

I gradually re-introduced food (dry toast) on Wednesday and started to improve. By yesterday I thought I'd recovered, but have woken today with bad diarrhea again so am concerned about leaving the house.

I guess what I want to know is, has anyone else experienced this ahead of labour? I've read that some ladies clear themselves itself out before labour, but this seems a bit more extreme. If it was a bug I would have thought it would have lasted for less time. I'm just hoping this will lead to something and that it's not all for no reason. I'm due on Sunday! Have had lots of BH and back pain. Can anyone offer any words of wisdom please? Thank you!

Since it's been 48 hours without improvement, you should probably get checked out. Definitely sounds more like a nasty bug than pre-labour symptoms. Poor you, sounds absolutely rotten.

I had d&v before the onset of all 3 labours but not quite as extreme as yours. It lasted about a day with me whilst yours sounds more like a tummy bug. It could still be labour and your body just goes to extremes though! Is this your first? Just wondered if you had anything to compare it to.

I'm not sure they would give you anything for a tummy bug anyway but jus make sure you are well hydrated and try to eat a little for strength in case it is labour.

Do you have any other symptoms such as lower back pain or severe restlessness? Good luck just in case! I'm due next month so feeling excited for you! Smile

Exactly how my labour started with dd2

I was so off colour I went to the hospital. The consultant gave me an almighty sweep with his size 8 hands and I had her that night.

Good luck!

Go get checked. It could be labour but it could also be something nasty.

Thanks, it's such a help to hear your experiences! This is my first baby. I have woken with lower back ache again. I've been feeling so tired all week, then last night had a huge surge of energy just before bed and so couldn't sleep! I also had to sit on my birth ball because of uncomfotable joints and it felt like the baby was bouncing up and down on my cervix with sharp shooting pains! Feeling fine in myself today.Just the lower back ache and dodgy tum.

That'll be labour starting then...

Your second post definitely suggests labour to me. The lower back pain and restlessness. Keep an eye out for your mucus plug though you don't always notice, you're more likely to notice with your first.

Keep bouncing on the ball and keep as active as possible. If you can manage a walk then do that as that always helps. Good luck. Having your first is so exciting! Smile

Hi, Rugbywidow, just wondered if you're still hanging on or whether it was, in fact, labour? Smile If so, hope everything went well!
