Hi everyone im currently 35+6 pregnant with DS2 and seem to be getting quite a bit different niggling pains and so was just wondering if you care to share your experiences about 2nd time pregnancies and labour.
Did your labout start earlier than with first baby and also did you experience different kind of labour pain or the same?

good luck to all of you

No, I'm afraid not. I was convinced the second time would be early as DD1 was born just one day after due date. At 40+12 I conceded that my premonitions had been wrong Grin and ended up being induced.

DD1 and DS born at 40+7 and DD2 at 40 + 6.
Labour was:

  1. 26 hours
  2. 12 hours
  3. 3 hours

Contractions for number three very different to first two - first children were real peaks and troughs, number 3 was one peak which sort of went half way back down and little ups and downs until she was born - very quickly. Also went to have a sweep with number 3 and was already 3 cms dilated with no sign that was even underway. Number 4 due in Nov so no idea if the pattern will continue or be totally different this time!

I found the contractions different - 1st time started like period pains, 2nd time more like pressure in bottom/back. Ist time was back to back so would think it was other way round.

Both were 4 days early.

Good luck if this is it!

DD1 born induced at 39 weeks after a 12 hour labour.

DD2 born at 38 weeks naturally after a 2 hour labour.

I didn't know I was in labour with DD2, I thought the niggly pains were SPD and BH contractions. Was on the toilet thinking I needed a big poo and was pushing and DD2 was crowning! She was born on the living room

ds1 3 weeks early and contractions were not painful in the hour it took me to get to 4cms (then emergency section)

ds2 2 weeks late and contractions were hideous in the 42 hours it took me to get to 4cms

they arrive when they want to arrive - and as to the pain i think it's all down to what position they're in

DS (1st) 41+3, 17 hr labour, painful, drip to speed it up, epidural, failed ventouse, forceps, 2 hrs in theatre putting me back together! Overnight stay.

DD (2nd) 41+1, 7 hr labour, waterbirth that honestly didn't even really hurt, 3 pushes and out she flew. Few stiches which I've never even felt! Home 3 hrs later.

Good luck!

DS1 40+3
DS2 37
DS3 40

All quick labours (and all back to back) with DS1 being the longest at around 5 hours.

The early arrival of DS2 came as a bit of a shock!

Good luck!

DD was born at 39+1 after 2 hour 5 minute labour.
DS was born at 36+3 after 3 and half hours of pushing he was delivered by EMCS due to brow presentation.
On my 3rd now and have no idea when this one will come so will try and be ready for 36 weeks but hope for longer cooking time.

My midwife told me that generally 2nd births are believed to be the easiest, no matter how many children you end up having (ie usually easier than the 3rd etc as well as the 1st).

DS1- 40+4(eventually) - long labour, felt like I couldn't cope with the pain (so epidural), difficult delivery (official length of established labour 28hrs)

DS2 - 40+1 - started with waters breaking, which is different to 1st. Only an hour of pain I couldn't handle through breathing alone, easy and straightforward delivery, altogether much much easier. (official length of established labour 11 mins).

Fingers crossed for you!

I think late pregnancy aches and pains were similar though, maybe BHs were more obvious with DS2. Had more feeling of 'tickling' down below with DS2, and he always seems to have his hands up by his face so I think it was that.
