Please tell me that I'm going to go into labour soon!!

I'm currently 41 wks and had my 2nd stretch & sweep this morning.

I had the 1st one done on Monday and although the cervix was soft it was still closed.

However, this morning, the MW told me that I'm 3cm dilated and the cervix is starting to efface. (Not 100% sure what 'efface' means).

I'm so fed up & impatient so really need someone to tell me that it's going to happen soon! Pretty please Smile Grin.

I'm not really feeling any twinges at the moment.

I'm desperate to have this baby before the end of the week. Can't bear another Monday morning of still being pregnant!

Sorry for the dramatics, it's the hormones Smile.

Oh I so know how you feel as I went 8 days over.

I think efface means stretchy so it sounds like good news. I had a sweep at 2-3 cm and went into labour the following morning.

Hope it happens soon for you.

:)

Thanks gallicgirl, that's encouraging. I am getting the odd twinge here & there but nothing that I would class as painful at the moment. I just wonder how you get to 3cm without feeling a thing! Confused

You sound like me! I was 40+8 when I had my sweep and was 3cm dilated without any symptoms at all., no period pain, no backache, no needing to go to the loo, nothing. I had the sweep at 12.30pm, first contraction at 10pm, 7cm on arrival at MLU at 1am, my son was born at 5am the next morning.

Fingers crossed for you.

Paschaelina, thank you! That is really encouraging. My Dsis was very similar to you too. I'm so hoping something kicks off later this evening. I'm getting the odd twinge though not sure if it's the baby doing some crazy move or an actual contraction! They're not painful just a tad uncomfortable!

Thanks for your message Smile

Thanks Smile. I need to try and take a leaf out of your user name! Struggling though Smile. Patience isn't my strong point even at the best of times.

I think it does run in families, my mum had all five of us with short labours. The longest was less than 12 hours, I was 5 hours apparently.

I carried on all that afternoon after the sweep as normal, cooked and ate dinner about 8pm with no impending feeling of anything really. I went upstairs to bed about 9.30pm, felt tired, a bit odd so came back downstairs to DH who was watching the racing, first contraction came and went, lasted about 30 secs, not particularly painful. They weren't significant contractions until after midnight and he was born 5 hours later. Not hugely painful until transition and he was born very quickly after that.

You'll be fine, and very probably a proud mummy in the next day or so.

Have you had your baby?

Report
ipredicttrouble · 01/07/2011 19:06

No! Sad Sad.

After a few promising contractions yesterday evening I've had nothing since. I was convinced that something was going to happen during last night but no!

God, I'm so frustrated!

Sad oh so sorry! I thought since there were no more posts that surely you'd be in labour. Here's hoping it happens for you tonight.

Hope it happens for you soon. I went 9 days over with DD2 (born three weeks ago). FWIW, the midwife tried to do a sweep on the Tuesday and couldn't even reach my cervix. 24 hours later, mild contractions started. Less than 48 hours later I had my baby (about a 9 hour labour). Things can change fast!

Thanks secondtimelucky, your story reassures me. Hope your little newborn is doing well?

She's gorgeous. But I may be biased. Grin

Hope it gets going soon. I was getting stressed about induction and was nearly mental with sleep deprivation (hip pain and late pregnancy insomnia). But it all got going in the end, I had an amazing homebirth and my DD is a delight (well, maybe not at 3am Wink).

This isn't what you want to hear but bear with me... I was 3cm dilated when I had a sweep at 7 days overdue, I then went to 13 days overdue I'm afraid.

HOWEVER, by the time I got to hospital I'd got to 8cm without even really noticing and DC popped out in about an hour. So maybe, just maybe, even if you're still pregnant on Monday morning you will have a lovely quick labour! I don't know really, just a theory and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

Congratulations secondtimelucky Smile.

Katie, do you know I was picturing the scenario that you've described. I have the odd v mild contraction which I'm sure will be dilating me a bit more.

After all this it would be nice to get to the hospital on Tues and find that I'm well dilated. I was 3cm on Thurs morning so I'm convinced that I must be more by now.

But why won't my body just get going properly?!
