Keeping still is fine but any kind of movement is really painful. I have co codomol but it's not really working. Any advice .

I don't remember pain as such, mostly tenderness at 4 days. I walked a mile after a week, so must have been getting there after 4 days.

But all this might be washed away by the endless crying I do remember.

Have you spoken to your midwife?

was it an emcs or an elcs?

with my emcs i was sore for weeks afterwards as they are so much rougher as they have to get baby out quickly.

with my elcs i was feeling fine about a week afterwards.

With my first it was really painful to move at 4 days, turned out I had a heamatoma (sp) which is a build up of blood between the layers, could you have something like this? or have pushed yourself too hard on day 1/2. Definately tell the midwife, mine burst, which although eased the pain it did become infected and made me feel like shit.
With second no such problem and day 4 was just stiffness really.

you can alternate co-codemol with ibuprofen so keeping a 4 hour gap between taking co-codemol but inbetween taking some ibuprofen. (but don't take more than the recommended dose of either in any 24 hour period).
I was in a lot of pain after my second CS (1st was EMCS and second was ELCS) and had a long slow recovery. Is the wound healing? Keep a close eye on it. I went to the doctors as mine was oozing and was told there was no infection there (by a visual examination !!!) went back 2 days later when it was really oozing and was swabbed by a female GP and I had 2 infections. 4 days is really early, only a few years ago you would still be in hospital being looked after but now everyone expects you to up and running around pretty quickly. Lift nothing heavier than your baby and get as much as help as possible.
It doesn't matter how other people feel after 4 days, if you are in pain then take pain relief and make sure you tell the midwife how you are feeling.
Take care

With my EMCS I was still in quite a bit of pain on day 4 and was moving very gingerly. That was also due to re labouring before the op - did you go straight into theatre or did you labour a bit beforehand? Def speak to your mw as better to be safe than sorry.

I had paracetamol and diclofenac after my (painless) elcs. Maybe co-codamol isn't effective for you. When my anaethetist mentioned co-codamol before the op, I told him that I had found it to be useless when it had been prescribed for me for a dental problem. He said that some people are resistant to codeine. Maybe you should ask your midwife for different medication.

I was in a lot of pain still... but because I was at hospital they could give me this oral morphine, could you perhaps ask you mw?

Take paracetamol continuously for a couple of weeks. With it try...........

diclofenac (Volterol) 75mg (only have to take it X2 daily; 50mg is X3 daily which is a faff)

or Ibuprofen.

Is it hot at all, I was in severe pain with any movement at 4 days and I had a bad infection, speak to your midwife or GP to get checked out. I would get checked with any worry if I were you. I didn't get my infection seen to quick enough and have now been on antibiotics for 2 weeks.

Have you poo'd? Seriously? You could be hugely constipated.
Take plenty laxative. Call midwife if overly concerned, I got infection 5 days post and it went downhill fast, I was in excrutiating screaming pain ad got re-admitted. Pain was mostly likely caused by poo. Poo caused infection!

Hi, I had an ELC nearly 2 weeks ago. At 4 days I felt good, but still found it painful to get up from the sofa/bed, could walk about but no real distance. Hospital gave me dycsofenic (spelling?) and paracetomal. With my 1st child I had an EMC - was given co-codamol and dycsofenic and found that it was not as efficient. The co-codomal blocked me up which caused A LOT more stomach pain. I changed to paracetomal on the advice of NHS direct (spoke to an amazing nurse,) who explained this probably contributed to some of the pain.

i was in a lot of pain after my EMCS ,when the midwife came to remove the staples it took her ages as i found it so painful she said it looked like id had an allergic reaction to the metal

2 days after that my abdomen was hot to touch and very swollen and was an awful smell coming from it,my wound burst and i was back in maternity ward for a week then theatre to sew it up again

if your in any doubt see your GP or use the open acsess to the marternity ward if u have it

they gave me codine phosphate wich helped a bit, like OPs have said DONT do anything more than pick up your baby,i couldnt even do that had to have him passed to me

i was told my wound was healing fine by my midwife

Don't get too worried there's something wrong: I had an emcs after a 4 day labour, didn't have a hernia or any infection (I healed beautifully) and I was still in a lot of pain 4 days after. It took me a good month to feel anything like normal, including going for a walk on my parent's farm 3 weeks after the birth and having to stop half way because I thought I was going to throw up from the pain and weird tugging sensations. Admittedly it was in deep snow over fields which was pretty bloody stupid of me.

Funnily enough I have healed better than some mums who had worse pain and were up and about far quicker than me. Stay in bed as much as possible!

That said, as PPs have also said a lot of heat means there's an infection and you need to get it sorted asap.

I second the alternate ibuprofen/paracetamol pill taking.

I meant less pain, obviously... Grin
