Does anyone know the going rate for a doula in London?

Or even a trainee doula, or how you go about finding a trainee doula? I was led to believe by the doulas' websites that a doula would charge about £400, but I am finding the quotes are double that for experienced Central London doulas. My consultant says it would be advisable for me to have one because of various medical issues, but I'm not due till Feb so maybe there's time to find one I can actually afford...

(Also posted this on Pregnancy, but think that was the wrong topic)

Mine (North London) is charging 750, so about 800 for Central London, unfortunately, sounds about right. Not sure how to find a trainee, who should be cheaper, but hopefully someone will be along in a minute who knows. Good luck!

Hi there,
When I was looking around for a doula, I found that the average rate quoted by experienced doulas in central London was £750.
In the end, we decided to go with a trainee doula as £200 was more compatible with our budget. That is the max that a trainee can charge. She is actually fairly experienced, having been a nurse previously.
We used the Doula UK website, as trainees are also listed on there.
Good luck!

Take a look on www.doula.org.uk The prices you were quoted sound right to me, £400 would be maybe a newly qualified, but in your position (you say you have medical issuea), I would try to find an experienced one who would maybe give you a discount?

good luck!

i think trainees can't charge more than 150 = 200, newly trained will probably be a bit more and then fully qualified with experience around 700 - 900 i think.
we paid 750 for ours and she was worth every penny!
