My 15 daughter has recently become very depressed, completely out of the blue was very happy, not worried about exams, no problems with friendship group etc... As it was so quick and severed with suicidal thoughts we saw a psychiatrist and she has started DBT treatment.

My employer has been fantastic and I have time off to be with here, probably about 4 months. I’m a teacher so it was easier to cover my absence if they could do so in a chunk.

Yesterday she saw her therapist for the first time and today she is feeling very down and tired. Not surprising, I was expecting her to have a reaction. I have tried to reassure her that it is normal an part of the healing, in the same way it can be sore after physio.

My main questions is, how do you look after yourself as a parent in all this? I like my job and I can’t now go. I am stuck in the house most of the day, sometime she just wants me to be in the same room as her.
