DS transitioning back to school

DS has been off sick and has missed 2 to 3 weeks of lessons due to depression and anxiety. He is on the mend and slowly the meds are working. We are planning on transitioning him back to school. He is in first year of A levels. He has missed so much work and is quite anxious about going to school.

This post is more about practical tips and experiences of people who have managed to successfully get their DC back into school. What worked? Challenge is for DS to get back into some normality of a routine but also keep up with work and eventually catch up with Work missed. Would welcome any insights and tips that others can give.

Does he have any friends on same A level courses who can mend him notes in order to catch up? I’m sure teachers will support with catch up work too

We are in the process of this, my DC has been going in on a phased return for six weeks now. I would advise building it up gradually, perhaps half days at first, or just single lessons if that is all he can cope with. Also I would concentrate on getting him in to school first, build back the routine, and then worry about catching him up once he is fully back and doing a full school day. The work side is secondary to just getting him back in ATM.

Sorry I can't help, but here to sympathise as I had just come on o ask a similar question.

DS is also in first year of A Levels. Suffering from Anxiety and depression and started taking ADs a few weeks ago. How long did it take for your DS to feel the benefits?

He's had a lot of absence, not full weeks but usually 1 or more days each week. We've had support from some of the teachers, but others haven't been in contact. He is anxious about even looking at his work because he doesn't want to see how much he has missed.

I think the fact that they don't have to do AS levels takes away some of the stress, but I keep worrying that school are going to say he has to leave as he's missed too much.
