This little chicky has hatched and is now an honorary silkie as its hatchmates are all silkie bantams.

Its 2 days old and bigger then the Silkie bantams. I thought it might be a light Sussex but the head dot has thrown me

I've had white chicks with several black dots and they were Lt Sx. I've also had yellow chicks with dots that went buff coloured and were Sussex crosses.

I currently have a pure white chick, which is 4 weeks old and feathered, but it can only be from a Lt Sussex or an Amber Star, so will be interesting to see if it gets any coloured feathers as it gets older.

Woah apologies for the multiple posts. Was on my mobile.

Its either a light sussex or a light sussex x rir but I thought they were brown?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride Sun 27-Jul-08 01:21:43

Sorry nus, I didn't quite catch your last post... grin

TheDuchessOfNorksBride Sun 27-Jul-08 01:24:57

When the feathers come through over the fluff they'll be brown or buff if it's the RIR cross or black & white if it's the Sussex. Half-feathered up chicks are not very attractive, DS1 says they look like pteradactyls!

NutterlyUts Sun 27-Jul-08 01:59:02

so this chick might still end up buff/brown when its feathers come through?

electricbarbarella Sun 27-Jul-08 08:16:02

so how old is it? is it bigger than the banties? Did you think it might be a light sussex? But what about the dot?
grin

I have no idea but it is very very lovely and cute.

NutterlyUts Sun 27-Jul-08 09:18:30

It hatched on Wednesday and its not a huge amount bigger then the silkies, but big enough to be noticible. The Dot is odd but I am going to ignore it and pray for light sussex :D

electricbarbarella Sun 27-Jul-08 15:07:50

are these your first chooks? you are very brave. i want to do some hatching in a year or so.

NutterlyUts Sun 27-Jul-08 15:24:03

First chickens yea. It was easier for me to hatch the breeds I wanted rather then try to find adults here.

electricbarbarella Mon 28-Jul-08 07:42:29

NutterlyUts Mon 28-Jul-08 12:35:14
