Chicken keepers

converting a wendy house

my nephew just got this playhouse and he can't stand it. so my sister said we could replace it with something he'd actually go into without screaming blue murder, and we could have this for the chickens we're planning on getting.

question is, can we convert it? we're going to have a large walk in enclosure (around 12ftx6ft) to put it in, and they'll get to free range as well, so it's just the mechanics of making it secure for sleeping and what we'd need to put in by way of nesting boxes etc.

I think as long as you can make the run fox proof it should be ok, someone on here did one recently but it was a wooden one, they had a thread with pictures so might be worth a look. I have replied on omlet site as well.

If it's plastic then it may not be insulated in which case you might have frozen chicken in the winter and roast in the summer - try putting it in situ and testing the inside temperature on particularly hot/cold days.

thanks guys. i've posted a couple of other places as well and the general consensus is as tortoiseshell said - that it won't be insulated enough.

ahh well, looks like he'll have to get used to his play house!

Pretty much anything does for a hen house-chicken run around here. I think one of my pics shows the wendy house hen shed in winter before we added the run.
