Chicken keepers

The fox got two of my sassos and it's my own stupid fault.

I am so cross. The two we were going to eat last weekend but never got around to doing. They were Lulu's chicks but being fully grown she has nothing more to do with them. they have been happily free ranging teh garden but still sleeping with Lulu in a little ark in the garden. lulu has gone broody again and has taken over the ark I hadn't realised the sasso pair had started roosting in a bush under the kitchen window.

I thought I'd shut them up last night with Lulu, just shut the ark door but didn't actually look inside.

This morning there is a pile of feathers on the driveway, along the verge and through the hedge into the field.

Bugger - I was looking forward to a good roast but the fox has beaten us to it.

Oh bugger. That's unfortunate.

Unlike my layers, the 7 week old delinquents and the hen with tiny chicks don't go to bed until about 10pm and I don't remember to shut them in until about 11pm. So it'll be my stupid fault when the fox digs under the fence and kills the lot. And there was a bloody huge fox poo outside the kitchen door this morning.

Oh no!

We have a fox visiting every night atm - he is a 'teenager fox' and hasn't learnt that he can't get the chickens yet. He will do though.

Am a bit anxious tonight as Dopey is asleep in the run, and am disinclined to get her out - she won't come out - and as it's warm I'm just going to leave her there (she's roosting on a wooden bench).
