We're due to pick up our four hens on Weds next week (as long as we get the coop finished this weekend!)

Just wondered if anyone had any tips for their first day and night with us? Also - how soon after getting them will we need to clip their wings. I think they're all around 16-20 weeks old.

Any tips very welcome - thanks.

Clip wings asap. When they first get home put them in coop and shut them in for two hours. Then let them put in run.

Thanks for the tips Pasithea. They are here now and in the coop so I'm resisting having a look and just letting them settle quietly.

Don't worry if they won't come out at first just leave them to it. You don't want to scare them . They do come out eventually. It's hard but leave them.

I never clipped wings after I had a fox attack in broad daylight. I wanted to give them a chance to escape should they need to. I had the odd one getting lost behind our garden but she came back for bedtime.
