Wooden edged run for Omlet Eglu Go Up?

Needing some advice from chicken keepers with more experience than me!

We've recently moved house and our new garden isn't as suitable for moving our run around our grassed area (avian flu permitting) as our old one was. We have an Omlet Eglu Go Up with a two metre extension run (about three metres in total including area under the Go Up). I have tarpaulin covers over the top. We have three chooks (ex comm rescue).

I would like now to keep the run in the same place and to build a base for it but am not sure how best to go about it and how to clean it out. I was thinking of timber edging filled with wood chips (Easibed or similar). Do you think I need to put paving stones underneath the shavings? And how would I go about cleaning it? Would I need to move the run off the base every so often to rake it over (can't get inside it to poop pick as it is too low)? If so, how often do you think I would need to do this? How often would I need to replace all the wood chips as opposed to just topping them up?)

My plan is to let the girls out into the garden for 2-3 hours each day and keep them in the run the rest of the time.

Do you think my plan will work, and what's the best way to tackle it?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions!
