Tried elsewhere but no response so wondered if I'd find anyone here who has had a go at pigs? Has anyone tried it? Is there a forum for it anywhere? We're at the very early stages of considering it. Have ordered a book, looks straightforward enough????? Obviously this is a chicken page but there isn't one for pigs. Someone must have had a go….?

Try and find a forum called The Accidental Smallholder, it was quite good for hobby farmers.

We are on our second year of pigs. Had 3x kune Kune last year and now have a kune x large black x3. We had hoped to get another 3 later in The year as our pork was in such high demand from the first batch. The accidental smallholder website is fab as is the forum. What do you want to know. We had sausages for dinner tonight Grin I really can't recommend it enough!

I had 2 pigs in my garden and they were great fun and very tasty. Agree with accidental smallholder there is also a site called over the gate.
The good tip i got was dont name them if you plan to eat them, never forget that you are going to eat them in the future. I froze the meat to have a decent gap between live and dead pig.
I would also look at what abbatoirs there are near you, we are lucky as there is a very small local one and i felt the end was done with some dignity, i wouldnt have liked to have gone to a big impersonal one
Never forget they can escape from any pen!
