Queen charlotte our rhode island red has sour crop - she has had a week on Avipro followed by a week on itrafungol which is quite a strong anti-fungal med. Her crop never really returned to normal, but today (day 7 of meds) it has ballooned right up again and when we syringed her meds in tonight she vomited all over me and DH and it was truly the most foul smelling thing ever. The weird thing is she is otherwise bright eyed and bushy tailed, eating and drinking and even laying as usual for her (every other day). I just can't see how she can survive with this illness, it must be putting pressure on her breathing and heart as well. Really not sure what to do, back to the vets tomorrow I think and will see what he thinks. There's a bit of me that hopes she will just pass on to chicken heaven overnight as she really is in a state. Sad

Is there any chance of you getting hold of any maggots? They can help to clear a sour crop.

Agree with hiddenhome. also if she is bright enough in herself and eating and drinking and not obviously suffering then theres not much else you can do. i tend to leave them if they are not in any discomfort and they either go in their own time to chicken heaven or if they are in distress we do the other thing. everything gets old sick and dies you are giving her the best care.

Maggots! are awesome! She ate nearly half a pint yesterday (who knew that you buy maggots by the pint?) and today her crop looked almost back to normal. I'm going to get some more to feed her tomorrow. she looked so much brighter today so I hope she might now get through this.
