Why Are My Chickens Whistling ?

Hello ! I was wondering if anyone can help me . We have 3 hens who live in a walk in aviary 3.5 metres long and then they have a run 6 metres long attached, where they can dust bath, scratch etc . They happily lay every day. But they have started to make a new noise - they seem to whistle . Does anybody know what this means ? It doesn't sound like a stressed noise , I would be mortified if it was and am hoping someone will tell me that it's a sign they are contented !

Chicken Run? They are getting ready to break out!

Sorry - no idea, but couldn't resist that.

I have no idea. I've never heard my chickens whistle.

I've had chickens for ten years and never heard one whistle. I want a whistling chicken!

Is it like a high pitched sort of warble? Mine do this from time to time and it tends to be when there's crows overhead, so I think it's a low key alarm call.

It's not really a warble but more of a soft whistle . Nice sound though! I googled it and could only find one other person on the web with a ' whistling chicken '. She said it turned out that the chicken was just happy, but I'm not sure how she came to that conclusion ....
Thankyou everybody for your replies. Happy egg collecting x

The whistling has alerted me. Are you sure they don't have a respiratory infection? I've never had a whistler, but recently had one impersonate a kazoo. She'd swallowed a long piece of grass and it was vibrating in her throat. Sinister.

Hi thankyou but she's very well . Have come to the conclusion that it's just one of her quirks.
