Anyone got a Golf or other VW with ParkAssist??

Just trying to spec a new car and if I choose 'Park assist' as an option it automatically takes off the front and rear sensors as a standard feature.

What I want to know and can't find out is whether the sensors will work if I'm not using park assist?!

Grateful for any help!
