Currently have an A series Mercedes which I love, but I need greater fuel economy. It has to be an automatic, similar size to the A160 would be nice.
Any help v welcome.

What kind of age/price range?

Brand new. Something cheaper than the Merc, not too much smaller.

My Passat is pretty good fuel wise, I do a lot of miles but it takes the same in fuel to do the 300 mile round trip to my mums as my sisters Skoda Fabia which is half the size (also automatic).

Is there anything wrong with your Merc?

What bigdog asked.

If you're just changing for the sake of it, unless you are significantly dropping down in price value, you're unlikely to save money, given the cost of changing cars.

Seat Leon 1.6tdi dsg. It's an auto, and will do 72 mpg.

But probably not in the real world. Let's say you replace your car (30mpg I guess) with a 50mpg diesel. If you do 10k miles per year the fuel saving is approx £700. If your current car is reliable it's not really worth spending thousands to change purely based on economy. If you just fancy a new car however then fine.
