My mum said to me (I am a 50 year old man) that mumsnet mums all drive new cars. I said that was rubbish. But you only have What Car maybe she is right...??

We've got two cars bought from new. These days with the cheap finance, and longer warranties, it can usually make good financial sense compared to used cars. We've got a Kia which was cheap to buy and comes with a 7 year warranty. We will probably keep it for that long. The payments were only £100 a month on the finance (now finished).

New company car every 18 months for last 20 years - guess I've been lucky, but the boss does work me hard!

Yes. Every time!

Just wanted to point out <hoists bosom> that Mumsnet Cars' 'What Car?' reviews are written specifically for Mumsnet Cars, and all of our Cars pages are edited by an experienced woman motoring journalist with two young children [ie. moi] grin. What's more, every 'What Car?' review gives Mumsnetters the opportunity to leave their own review too - the more the merrier!

I do. A new car and my first car! smile

Mine was a new car when I bought it, it was 8 in Sept. It's a bloody brilliant and reliable Yaris and looks like it will only get replaced when I have too many children for the seats.

KatieScarlett2833 Sat 16-Nov-13 10:36:45

Mine is a focus too member.
I'm off shortly to collect her from the garage. smile

V reg, so 13 years old. We also have a second car which is 17 years old.

We've never had a new car. To me, new would be one with the "new" style number plate (AA51 AAA) type rather than the VAAA AAA type grin.

51 plate original focus here - it does well.

Wouldn't buy new because of the depreciation as soon as you drive off the forecourt!

tabulahrasa Sat 16-Nov-13 10:27:34

It was new when I bought it - 5 years ago

KatieScarlett2833 Sat 16-Nov-13 10:26:42

My 04 has just passed it's MOT.
Good to go for another year grin

Handbagsonnhold Sat 16-Nov-13 10:25:02

mamicar Sat 16-Nov-13 10:23:24

51 plate car. we did have a 04 plate but it was shit to be fair. older cars where built to last grin

ConfusedDotty Sat 16-Nov-13 10:10:36

Bit of both. We have an 52 Toyota and a 63 Volvo. Prefer the older one tbh.

ArgyMargy Sat 16-Nov-13 10:04:29

Yes, new company cars for last 15 years. Changed every 3-4 years.

KatieScarlett2833 Sat 16-Nov-13 09:56:24

My car was new when I bought it 9 years ago.
I will drive it till it dies. If I were to change my car I would only buy the same one so what's the point?

lljkk Sat 16-Nov-13 09:50:05

Bought one at 18 months old, closest to new I'll ever get.
My 70yo dad has a really prestigious, well-paid job & career & has only ever bought 2 new cars. He likes Mercedes & BMWs but can't afford them new, either.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme Sun 03-Nov-13 21:13:21

CruelAndUnusualParenting Sun 03-Nov-13 20:30:42

PublicEnemyNumeroUno Fri 01-Nov-13 18:08:47

Mines an X reg so about 13 years old?

bzoo Fri 01-Nov-13 18:05:01

63 plate hybrid toyota

colleysmill Fri 01-Nov-13 18:02:32

One of my cars is older than you OP wink so your mother is quite incorrect.

However I don't think anyone would particularly be interested in a review of car that the last model rolled off the production line in the late 60s

BackforGood Fri 01-Nov-13 18:01:59

Our newer car (out of the 2) is an 07 plate.
the older one was built in the last century.

MotherOfDragon Fri 01-Nov-13 18:00:55

I do- a new mini
