Car seats

Do I need a new car seat?

DS is 2.5 years old and weighs just over 15kg.

Hes currently in his britax first class which I was hoping he would be in for a while longer but due to the fact it sits high in the car hes head is now about the seat. Is this a problem? Due to the high of the seat it also makes it hard to get him in and out easily...lots of twisting and banging of his head!

Any ideas?

Think if his eye level is above the top of the seat you have to get a bigger one.

I am sure an expert will be along shortly

Thanks ginger think you are right.

Just looked on Britax site...no stage123 seats fit my car. Its either a booster sytle with normal seat belt or a group one style which would be the same as what he has now so bloody too high.bugger!

Trip to local nursery store on Saturday I think!

Can he climb into it himself? I put a step stool in the car so they could get in and out themselves so they no longer got their heads bumped!

Hi Car girl...I dont think he could. Its really quite high. The first class has quite a high base which raises it IYKWIM. Its a lovely solid car seat but think we may be in trouble with his head poking out over it.

I ended up getting a 2nd hand britax renaissance because the actual seat bit - height was much much bigger by far than the rest of them, I think the 1st class is particularly small in that respect. Do you know anyone who would possibly swap/loan you a larger stage 1 seat for another year?

Sorry, I don't really understand your OP - I am sure this must be a typo:

"due to the fact it sits high in the car hes head is now about the seat"

It doesn't make sense - where is his head in relation to what seat? The backseat of the car, or the carseat? Surely if he has outgrown the carseat itself the height of the seat base makes no difference - please can you clarify.

Gingerbread is right by the way, if his eyes are level with the top edge of the carseat then he is too big for it. But this seems unlikely for a 2.5 year old unless he is very tall, so will wait for you to come back and clarify

Sorry Bertiebotts.....Im not sure now! Only had a quick glance this morning and though his head is over the seat...then world war three broke out and was distracted (dont you just love the mornings?!)

Will have proper look tomorrow and report back.

Something is prompting me to look at the seat though. It was loose when I went to put him in it this evening....it had come undone at the seatbelt-no idea how. Scared the life out of me...thank god I noticed

Just braved the cold to look at seat again in car....top of his car seat is level with top of seat in car...so regardless his head is poking over the top.

Hes not even that tall. I just dont get it!

It doesn't matter where the first class is or his head in relation to the actual rear seat of the car only that his eye level must not be above the top edge of the first class.

onadietcokebreak, his ehes need to be lvel with the top of the seat so he has a while yet, or (usually) 18kg which ever is soonest.

Phewwww His eyes arent there yet....

Which is just as well as think I will have problems getting a 123 for my car as the fit finder on Britax site says none fit and the other seats that do are only til 4yrs or from 4yrs.

Its only cos the first class is quite high up that I have to twist him in and normally end up banging his head!

If you did need a group 123 seat have you seen the Kiddy Comfort Pro? It's pricey but has got very good reviews for safety etc. It's quite low down in the car as well as it doesn't have a plastic base.

looks fab...but £200 is pricey! However if lasts til 12 worth it!
