Axkid Minikid - which car have you got?

I’ve got an Axkid Minikid squeezed into a focus. I can just about fit as a front seat passenger but my knees are right up against the dashboard. Tall DH can’t fit in at all so has to sit in the back when I drive. We are buying a new car.

Apart from a Skoda Octavia what else will this seat fit well into? The seat is a non-negotiable. The car we can be flexible on!

It fits into pretty much any car! Are you on Facebook? There are two groups on there which absolutely love the Minikid, A-Z of Rear Facing and Car Seat Advice UK. You could run a search and see what cars people have them in.

I know it says it fits into lots of cars but is said if fitted into a focus but neglected to say that it wouldn’t allow for a front seat passenger to fit in! Will look at the groups. Thank you.

I'm really surprised that there's so little room in a focus! We have a fiesta as our second car and although we don't do it often, we can fit our two Minikids in with DH 6'2 and me 5'7. Have you fitted the Minikid so that the extendable leg is pushed right into the back of the car seat?

As for new cars, we use our two Minikids in a Seat Alhambra which is huge but a 7 seater so it isn't to everybody's taste! We've also fitted them in a Golf, a Peugeot 2007 and a Kia Ceed estate.

I think the Focus is less roomy than it seems. S-Max is supposed to be big. You need something with a decent amount of cabin space, that's the term you're looking for, or a long wheelbase. You generally want a saloon or estate car, rather than a hatchback (Ford Focus is a hatchback).

Skoda Superb is similar to the Octavia but the distance between front and back is absolutely insane!

I've had my minikid in a ford fiesta, a volvo v40 and a vauxhall insignia. The insignia is the biggest there is plenty of space.

I've had my mini kid in a Skoda Octavia and Superb . A VW Passat, a Toyota Corolla and a Renault Fluence. It's fits in all of them fine.

Bmw 3 series. It fits nicely and we will probs get one to go behind the driver for DD.

Apparently BMW break down more as opposed to VW so you could get a golfestate which is the same size. Saying that it is very easy to drive which is nice

We’ve got ours in a fiesta (tight squeeze for a passenger) and a Vauxhall Astra estate (loads of room).

We have ours in a Skoda Roomster and my husband who is 6ft can sit comfortably in front of the minikid without his knees going near the dashboard. Ugly car but lots of space! When we bought it, I measured the space between the back of the passenger seat and the back seat and it was about 92cm.
Also you’ve probably checked this already but is it possible to install the seat closer to the rear of the car? On the bottom of the minikid there is a lip which you can hang over the edge of car seat, and this gives the child extra leg room. But it doesn’t have to overhang the car seat, you can install the minikid pushed up against the back rest of the car seat and the lip gets pushed into the cushion of the car seat. I hope that makes sense. The child gets less leg room but the front seat gets more.
