Car seats

Car seat which can be used with seatbelt and isofix?

My DS is just turning 9 months old and will be needing a bigger car seat soon. We currently use a maxi-Cosi pebble plus with a 2wayfix base in our car and with the seatbelt when he has to go in DH van. unfortunately the next Maxi-Cosi car seat can not be used with a seatbelt. I’m looking for recommendations for car seats that can be used with both isofix and seatbelt for his next stage. I have tried looking but it’s very confusing. Thanks in advance.

What weight are they? That car seat isnt outgrown until they reach 13kg or their head is over the backrest

I’m not going to be putting him in it straight away, I’m planning ahead. Also I don’t know how much he weighs as The baby clinics obviously aren’t running at the moment. I have another DS who is nearly 5 so I do kind of know what I’m doing.

You could get a rough idea if you have scales - weigh yourself holding him and then not holding him. Theres no need to be snippy - often people think they need to change seat at 9kg whereas most are ok up until 13kg

And at that age you should still be looking at a rear facing seat anyway

I’m not being snippy at all, I was just saying I know what I’m doing and just asking for recommendations of car seats as there are so many on the market. Maybe I should have also stated that the car seat needs to be rear facing and forward facing as ideally I want to keep him rear facing until 18months-2

Why only rf to two? He can rear face longer than that - there are seats that go up to 25kg rf.
I'm racking my brains but I can't think of a next stage car seat that is both belted and isofix, they are usually one or the other.
Personally I'd go for belted as properly installed it's just as safe as Isofix (arguably safer given a seatbelt is designed to hold a grown adult in place) and it's more universal.

An axkidd or axxkid
Rear facing up to 25kg and belt only fitting

Isofix seats are not superior
However you will need to check a front seats weight limitation for a van as many don’t allow in excess of 18kg
And ma y rear facing seats in the front with of course the airbag deactivated can adversely impact left wing mirror vision too

There aren't many which can be both rear facing and forward facing AND fitted with isofix or seatbelt.

You have got the Joie Stages FX - but that's only isofix in forward facing mode, in rear facing mode it can only be fitted with seatbelt.

There is also Maxi Cosi Beryl, that's only rear facing until 13kg though, but that might do you OK if you only want to rear face until 1.5-2 anyway. Have a check in your red book when your DC is projected to hit 13kg based on his centiles. It's a two part one where you install the base part with seatbelt or isofix and then click the seat in on top. You can then use it forward facing with the harness up to 18/25kg (some reviews say the harness only adjusts up to about the average size of a 4yo and no further).

You might be better off getting two seats - one for the car, one for the van. Yes it will be pricey, but seatbelt fitted car seats are pretty cheap for this age group. You could get whichever rear facing Pearl fits on your base and then a Joie Tilt, Steadi or Stages for the van. That would probably come to about £300 which is the price of the Maxi Cosi Beryl anyway.

Or yes as others have said, look at a 25kg seat - it will last you much longer (they can be rear facing up to about age 7 if you want!) and because they are seatbelt fitted everywhere, you don't have the isofix to worry about anyway.
