Are you holding on to child car seats because you don't know how to dispose of them safely? Don't want them to go to landfill? Please help us reach 100,000 signatures to make child car seat recycling a legal requirement. We know it can be done, we just need all the brands, retailers and Household Recycling Centres to come on board and make the logistics and commercials work.

I started the above petition, and have shared in many zero waste forums and parenting groups.

I started the petition after my husband was in a car accident - and our seats were written off. It didn’t feel good to take them to the tip, we learned that some fire stations might use for practice, but our local fire station didn’t want them.

I’m pleased to hear so many people want to sign this petition because they want to do the right thing, and not have to drive their used car seats to the tip

We wrote to all the major baby companies, and none of them had an easily accessible return and recycle programme.

Thanks to JDMA we now know that a sustainable, responsible and alternative solution - we don’t have to put our seats in the landfill if a recycling programme is mandatory.

European car seats don't expire, good idea for a petition though, as they do become unsafe to use eventually or after a crash. So a recycling programme is a great idea.
