How to travel abroad with a 1 year old?

Hi All,

I hope you can help.

My DD has outgrown her size 0 car seat. We travel a lot so this seat was great, with adapters we could use it with a buggy, check it in at the airport. Easy.

Now we are in a pickle. It looks like all car seats for 1-4 yo are fixed on an isofix base which makes them absolutey not portable. We'd like to fly abroad in a few weeks but without a car seat for DD this is a bit difficult.

Does anyone has any ideas on a car seat we could use when travelling abroad that is more portable than one with the isofix base? Are there any bigger seats that are secured with a seatbelt?

Tia!

the cybex pallas has the option to have isofix or not, so would be portable, and it rear faces to age 3 before being able to turn it round

There are lots of seatbelt fitted options which don't require isofix. The Joie tilt is worth looking into as a seat to travel with.

The Cybex mentioned above isn't rear facing. It's a forward facing impact shield to 18kg and can convert to a high back booster.

Has she absolutely definitely outgrown the Group 0+ seat? She would need to have reached the weight limit, height limit if it's an i-size one or her head be poking out the end. It's rare for children to have completely outgrown the baby seat at just turned one, although you might well swap for your everyday seat as it could be less comfortable for them. However, it's fine for travel.

So I would check this first.

Failing that, yes you can get a Group 1 seat which is seatbelt fitted. Do you need one which is allowed to take on the plane and be fitted in the plane seat? If so you could look at the Britax eclipse or Diono Radian 5. Joie also have a range of seatbelt-fitted seats, which are fairly lightweight and would be good for travel plus are reasonably priced.
