Someone please recommend me your group 1/2/3 car seats.
My DS is 3 in May; and we really need a Harnessed seat as he's growing out of his!
I'm currently being drawn towards the Britax Romer 123, but would love to hear your recommendations before I take the Plunge!
Thanks
Smile

What height and weight centile is he following?

If he's growing out of a group 1 seat, the Britax is unlikely to be a good choice. It is only harnessed to 18kg and then you use the car seat belt as a high back booster. He's very young to go into a high back booster. Car Seat Advice UK recommend not changing to a HBB until at least 4-4.5yrs but obviously it is legal from 15kg.

If you want to keep him harnessed you would need a 25kg seat. Obviously rear facing is still far safer (Axkid Minikid, Britax Two Way Elite) or there are 25kg forward facing seats (Joie Bold). However, the forward facing seats do need isofix and top tether so they're only an option if your car has both of these.

Hello,
Thanks for responding, he's currently in a Group 0-1 car seat.
I'm not sure what weight/height centile he is in, but he's just looking more and more cramped in his current seat.
I was looking at the group 1/2/3s as I can adjust the Headrest etc to fit him and would last until he's 11/12.
The ones I have been looking at say 9months-12 years which is the reason I was looking at them.

We've got the Recaro Young Sport and it's a great seat, would highly recommend. It's only a group 1 harnessed until 18kg though so it depends how heavy he is already. My 4 yo is still in the harness.

They say up to 12 years but from 18kg you have to remove the harness and use the seat as a high back booster with the car seat belt acting as the restraint.

If he's outgrowing his seat he's likely to be taller or heavier than the 50th centile which means he will be outgrowing a harnessed 18kg seat whether it converts to a HBB or not.

He's very young to be restrained by the car seat belt - could you trust him not to play with the seat belt, not to fall asleep, etc? If he's not mature enough for this then even forgetting the physical considerations, you need to keep him harnessed. Which means a 25kg seat.

Yes I don't think I could keep him in a seat unharnessed!
I know you have to remove the harness at a certain height and weight, the straps he's in at the moment seem fine, it's the seat itself he's looking like he's filling.
I'll check his Height & weight and do a bit more research.
Thank you :)
